Norton Software Analyzer is using excessive CPU

Description:

I cannot find out what “Norton Software Analyzer” is. It has a subprocess nnlblDSAgent.

It starts periodically and uses an excessive amount of CPU and runs for a long time.

I cannot kill it from the task manager.

I hate it when I cannot find out what Norton software is doing in the background.

Product & version number:

Norton 360 Deluxe current version

Unfortunately there is no help/about in the interface to show the actual version like most software provides.

Update: I just found the information, which is off screen on the non-resizeable settings pane. What a terrible place for about. It is not a setting!!!

OS details:

Windows 10

What is the error message you are seeing?

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

@Julie777 Whether we use Software Updater or not Norton still runs it in the background. I DO NOT use it and have my settings as shown below. Set yours the same, restart the computer, recheck. Lets us know if things change for you. We on the forums suggest EXTREME CAUTION using SU as it can render a computer not usable in some instances.

Turn Auto-Update OFF

Next open the Settings tab and disable these three settings

I do not understand how your response has anything to do with “Norton Software Analyzer”.

Norton sender mange fejr rettelser ud de næste mange dage alt lige fra høj cpu brug til ustabilitet netværk og firewall og det er bare nogle af dem så tjek tit

@Julie777 Are you referencing my last post? Norton Software Analyzer is a Norton Service the protects identity against cyber crime. The process you posted, nllbiDSAgent is found in Windows Services. It CANNOT be disabled. It will run at random times regardless of settings. FWIW. My initial reference is also about software updater, the two are inter related.

sorry to open and old topic, but did you find solution for this?
i’m suddenly today having the same exact issue.

In my case I found this happen when I run Claude code, and it still runs even if I close Claude code, also Norton support was useless, they just reinstall it couple of times and said I don’t have any problem, it’s normal.
Taking 4 threads with 100% usage of the CPU, and 2GB of the ram they consider normal

@Ismail_Dakrory Is your Claude version, Version 2.1.27? If so it has known CPU usage issues:

SA

@Julie777 Norton has released version 26.3, do you have it installed and if so is your issue still present?

SA

My Claude code version is 2.1.9, and it’s not Claude code usage, it’s Norton Software Analyzer, after some digging the process name is nllbIDSAagent, and it can’t be stopped or disabled.

The CPU usage taken by the task is only 3.5%, but this render my power usage to 70w instead of 40w, and temp from 45c to 70c, also taking about 2.5G or ram.

and that continue even if i close claude code and all of it’s tasks, the only fix is restart pc

I have the latest Norton version and it’s the same.

When I run Cursor app, Norton Software Analyzer uses about 34% of the CPU and cannot be disabled. It slows down my old pc,it’s so annoying

This after last update or from long time ?

I just noticed today and also thought it was because of the Cursor app but I closed the app an hour ago and norton analyzer still runs on task manager (still takes up 32-34% CPU)

Yeah, the same here, I think there is problem with last update then.

The issue is technical support not admit it

My PC has slowed down incredibly after this last update, I’m using codex on vscode and this norton software analyzer is using 2 gb of ram and 7% cpu but the pc started freezing up I have no idea what’s going on. I think I’m just going to uninstall Norton

Norton should take note of this thread.

Norton Software Analyzer sounds like code that is using behavioral analysis to determine if the code you are running is malicious in any way. It may be getting stuck in a loop and that is why restarting is the only way to calm it down.

Norton support will not help you here as their only suggested method is the usual reinstall. Provide feedback here and also thru the Norton app itself. Norton Developers need to be aware of this.

Norton Software Analyzer is taking over my Laptop with 100% CPU!!! Norton should take note of this thread.

Same here !
Everything was fine until I start Claude code. After that, Norton Software Analyzer keeps busy, whatever I try to do, or disable, or exclude.
I reinstalled Norton (keeping the settings, maybe I shouldn’t have) => same

Reboot, all is fine again.
Start a Claude session, and Norton Software Analyzer kicks in.

It is a good idea if anyone experiences this issue to follow these steps for Norton.

Steps to collect logs:

  1. Open Norton Main UI

  2. Click on Settings

  3. Go to Troubleshooting tab

  4. Toggle ON settings - Enable Debug Logs

  5. Reproduce the actual issue

  6. Click on Send Logs and proceed to collect and send logs along with the issue screenshot

  7. Share the File ID generated at the end

I just ran a manual Live Update (under Security with the new playtoy interface), signed in to let it run, then let it reboot the machine. It installed a new norton, not just updates. On reboot, after a little bit past usual startups, all went tame. Laptop is running at 1% idle, and all norton activities only appear at moments, the usual.

Looks likek they have a fix in, and you can get it this way. Before, no fun whatsoever – fans and toasty as you’ve probably had…
