Norton Stops Working During Scans

For the past few weeks I have had a reoccurring problem during scans.  Windows tells me that Norton has stopped working and it closes out.  This was preceded an event in which the scans stopped working entirely and Norton told me that certain files were missing and I needed to uninstall and reinstall Norton, which I did.  Everything else works in Norton including power eraser.  There is also no specific file number it happens at but it usually happens early in the scan but not always.  Most recently it didn't happen till it was in the 4.8 millions.  I also run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it hasn't found anything.  It also happens whether or not I run rKill.  Any help to fixing this problem is greatly appreciated.
