It is not compatible with Win7.

You can also check out the following chart under "FAQs": it says that the Basic version of Norton SystemWorks 12 is not compatible with Windows 7, while "update plans to be announced" is indicated for the Standard and Premier versions.

Probably the files that Express Cleanup tries to delete are in use, no need to reinstall the product. Reboot your computer and run the cleanup right after Windows loads and check the result.

Have you tried just telling it to Run Program just to see what happens (even though it is comping up not compatible). It would probably install but I do not know how the modules in SystemWorks will behave with Win7.

The AntiVirus part will work fine after it upgraded itself with the win7 compatibility patch.
But the Basic system tools part, and the backup part of Premier maybe will not work perfectly, as they were not designed to work with win7.

I bought Norton Systemworks Basic 12.0 during December 2008, it is the last version of NSW and less than one year we know it will not have an update to the new Operating System.

I do not understand why this tactic with the previous version, if the version was older I would shut up, but it is the last one.

The problem is that NSW Basic 12 was designed for Vista and XP. Win7 has many new regkeys, settings, etc., and Symantec has to rewrite the app to work with it. And at the moment we didn’t hear any news about a new version, maybe they will only develop Norton Utilities for win7, and NSW will die out…

There will not be a Windows 7 compatible version of SystemWorks.

Hi

I think the reason for this is that there is NAV 2010 and there is the separate Norton Utilities which will be coming out with an update to it. So it looks like they just want to sell the 2 parts of System Works separately. Sure am going to miss not having System Works after all these years.:(

The part I wanted the most from SystemWorks (System Doctor) runs fine for me under Windows 7.  Now EVERY sensor it supports may not work perfectly or at all, but the ones I use (Memory, Disk, Time, Up time, and realtime disk I/O) work great.

There are plenty of defragmenters and disk checkers out there but I couldn't find a replacement for System Doctor.

Did a custom install, un-checking everything except System Doctor.

i am curently using systemworks 12 with windows 7.   i installed this because i really like having the express cleanup, especially after i have come off my banking website.

knowing this had compatibility issues with win 7,  i had a hunch it would be windoctor because it doesn't know how to clean a windows it doesn't understand.  anyway, i already have norton utilities 14 but as you know it doesn't come with express cleanup and i am sick of opening utilites to do a browser clean after each visit to my bank or email so that's why i needed expreess cleanup.

with systemworks as you know has problems so when i installed systemworks i unticked everything except optimizer (defrag, because it won't let you install just cleanup without another program). that way i was installing something to keep systemworks happy. i don;t use the optimizer but is nice to have express cleanup on my desktop with utilities 14 and i just get rid of the desktop icon of systemworks. when installing ignore any compatibility issuses like i did.

Hi rh and jduk

On the face of it all would seem to be working OK for you with specific parts of NSW on Win7 but please remember that you are running something that is not certified for use on Win7 and, should things change on your PCs, there is a chance that your system and/or data could be adversely impacted.

Hi rh and iduk,

I would like to add a thought to what my compatriot mdturner said. It is one thing to use sensors to monitor things on the OS. But you would be best advised to NOT use tools in NSW which makes any changes to your system, including Express Cleanup.

Like you all, I love NSW but do yourself a favor and don't use any of it's tools to make changes to your system.

As far as defrag utilties goes, have you considered Perfect Disk?

I truly believe that Norton Utilities will fill the gap from where NSW left off. It is really down to just how many users make use of the different features.

HI Jduk,

That is of course your choice. On a scale of 1 to 10, of course Express Cleanup rates only a 1 or 2 in terms of risk, compared to Win Doctor which would rate a 9or10 on the risk factor. But why take a chance?

And by the way I am a software engineer and geek (:smileyhappy:), so I know a thing or two about computers myself.

Allen

yes and so do i.  but hey, there’s always ccleaner lol

I briefly considerd including NDD in the install along with System Doctor.  But for reasons that you and I agree on, I elected not to risk using anything that would make changes to the computer.  The information that System Doctor provides is all I wanted - and only a small subset of all the information possible at that.

Yes, for over a year now.

Hi Rh,

Really good, eh? I've always liked the customization and offline defrag capabilities and it does a really good job at throttling so as not to hog CPU resources.
