Hi,
I have Norton SystemWorks 2003 (Traditional Chinese version) installed in a Windows ME (Traditional Chinese) machine (Pentium III 1GHz, 512MB SD RAM). I haven't used this machine for a few months, but recently I need to use it again for some reasons. I find that since last December (around Dec 26), I cannot update the virus definitions. And I forgot in what conditions, I sometimes got a full blue screen with a big and red error message box during Windows start-up. It says:
"NAV Auto-Protect"
Unable to initialize the virus scanning engine database files.
Last night I found two clean virtual PCs, one Win XP SP2 (English) and one Win ME (English), and the RAM size was set to 512MB for both machines (and of course no virtual memory), to do an experiment. I installed the same copy of NAV2003 (English version) into both machines, and then installed the virus definitions 20130129-005-i32.exe (of course the same copy also) to both of them. I found that the XP one could be updated, but the ME one could not.
Now I would like to know:
- Is that LiveUpdate of the virus definitions do not support Windows ME?
- If yes, can anyone tell me what is the last version that can support Windows ME? (I think it should be after May 23, 2012, which is the most latest version I can update in the Pentium III machine.)
- If no, is there anything I can do without upgrading the PC and the Norton product installed?
Thank you!
P.S. I found these two posts while searching in Google, I don't know whether they are relevant to my case.
