I have been experiencing high levels of usage of my processor, memory and hard disk whenever I start up my computer. On the day after I had run a full system scan on Norton 360 and a backup when I logged in my computer was locked up by the demands of Norton 360 which appeared to be running but did not show what it was doing. Whilst running it was taking up over one third of my computers resources which created a situation where I could not use the machine for over one hour and eventualy had to re-boot.
1. How can I find out what Norton was actually doing and
2. How can I restrict the amount of resources that Norton is using.
My computer is an HP Envy laptop with an Intel i7-6500U cpu and 12 Gb of RAM.
the task manager will tell you how much memory , cpu its using
as for deciphering what it does can be confusing
it naturally has its course of action(s) and "does it thing" but sometimes you can find its using a high amount of cpu ( in history log of scans ( classic mode) , sometime ago i was having a issue with that but seems to have been fixed
i have not noticed any high or real unexpected use in some time so would think they worked out the bugs there
if you find its excessively high in task manager that could be cause to question what its doing or why, maybe it froze or some bug still not fixed
my advice beyond checking those, would be to make sure you are up todate and run the auto fix
