Running Norton Utilities 15 on Windows 7. SpeedDisk crashes my system (blue screen) every time it's trying to defragment (I suspect) a "pgbleach.x" file (x is a number). I've noticed there are 269 of these pgbleach files in my c:\ directory, each one is 1Gb in size and I don't know where they came from! Would this have anything to do with the new bleaching feature in Norton Utilities 15 (which I have run once since installing)?
Hi,
bleaching is a method of wiping out previous file remains from the disk. Basicly it overwrites the whole available free space of the disk, removing this way the oppurtunitiy for recovery softwares to get back any data from you disk.
Can you please tell us which Windows OS and Service Pack do you use?
(I used this feature on Windows 7 x64 without any problem.)
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit (Version 6.1 Build 7600)
I suspect the bleach function has left behind 269 pgbleach files in c:\ which is taking up 269Gb of harddisk space.
MAYBE the bleaching process was interrupted and the program left these temporary files behind??? I ran the whole bleaching process again today successfully but all the pgbleach files are still present. Are they safe to delete manually because they are taking up HALF my hard disk drive and causing SpeedDisk to crash every time.
Yes, you can delete them. They are totally "blank" files.
