Hi,
I ran the disk clean and afterwards all my internet favorites and user names etc are removed.
Can anyone suggest a way to have Norton Utilities not remove these when running a disk clean?

Hi Thanks,
Will doing this save my favourites and account # etc for banking?
Nortons reply was to do the following: (have you tried tis method?)
Thank you for contacting Norton Support.
Blaine, I would like to bring this to your kind information that Norton Utilities is designed in such a way to clear all the cache, cookies, histories and index.dat files for the all the browsers that has been installed on the computer.
However, it is not possible to restore the files that has been already been cleaned up using Norton Utilities, but if you would like to avoid cleaning up your internet Favourites, I would recommend you to add the Internet Explorer program to the ignore list for the clean up process.
1 Start Norton Utilities. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
2 In the left pane, click Administer.
3 Click Settings.
4 Under Options, click Ignore Lists.
5 Browse to the location to locate Internet explorer ( .exe file )
6 Click Save.
Please let me know if the steps have fixed the issue you were encountering

Hi Blaine,
Is there anything related to IE (Internet Explorer) you DO want cleaned? Two items you did not mention in your list are downloaded program files and auto-complete form data.
With the method I outlined earlier you can specify what (if any) parts of IE you want to have cleaned. The list is as follows:
Cache, history and address bar
Cookies
Index
auto-complete form data
downloaded program files
By clearing the checkmark on any of the above in Optimize > Clean your disks > Browsers tab you can prevent that portion of IE from being cleaned.
If you do not want to have anything cleaned with IE, you can look on the left hand pane of this window and simply remove the checkmark for Internet Explorer and then nothing will be cleaned there.
Based on what you mentioned it sounds like you should clear the checkmark for everything except downloaded programs and auto-complete form data.
In other words through the method I outlined you can achieve much better control over what is cleaned than using the ignore list you mentioned.
Hope this helps.
Allen
Hi
Your method is better than the ignore list solution provided by Norton. I only want to save my internet favorites (as I imagine most people do) and my bank acct number etc (excl passwords!)
Nortons provided solution was overkill to ignore internet explorer from the clean totally?

Blaine
Hi Blaine,
Thanks for the update. It sure sounds like it.
I would definitely recommend the list I provided so that the parts of IE that you don't care about are cleaned properly.
Allen
Hi
I tested it by removing the check mark against cookies only and my favorites were still there and the bank card # etc. Makes sense?
The auto complete and downloaded program files can still be checked off?
Regards
Blaine
Hi Blaine,
Yes it makes sense. However, if you want to retain history of visited websites you should also remove the check mark for cache, history and address bar.
If you have bookmarks for all the websites you care about then you don't need to do this.

Hi Blaine2010,
Just curious how things are going.
Allen

Thx for your help

Hi Allen,
Thought all was ok but it looks like my favourites stay after running Norton Utilites but pre filled bank card # 's etc are removed. Any idea how to stop these from being removed?
Regards
Blaine
Hi Blaine,
This should be part of the auto-complete form data. You can remove the checkmark for that.
I believe auto-complete covers any bank card number which is not part of the actual username/password log in. For username/password information you need to keep cookies and index.
Thanks

Thanks Allen,
So to confirm: un check, cookies to keep the windows explorer favourites and auto complete to keep the pre filled in bank card #'s etc?
Should be ok now I think!
