Norton Utilities Registry Cleaner WON'T TURN OFF!

Greetings.

I just installed Norton Utilities yesterday, because I wanted to do some file-shredding and empty-space cleanup.

I thought I could trust Symantec to sell me a product over which I actually had some control.

Apparently wrong.

  • After entering the "Settings" dialog in the Dashboard (yesterday) I turned off the switch for "Registry Cleaning"  -- because Microsoft advises that registry cleaners are mostly destructive (unless you have very limited RAM or processor speed -- neither of these conditions applies to me).
  • Imagine my surprise this evening when the process started-up ANYWAY and altered over 2000 registry values.
  • Of course I opened the Recovery tab in Utilities and restored my earliest backup.

I would be happy to hear of any approach that effectively stops this process (and that would prevent me from uninstalling the product to look for something simpler and easier to manage).

Thanks, friends.
