I have run NU registry cleaner (NU ver. 14.5.0.120) several times today, only to have it stop and "freeze up" each time when it reaches a file "C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSN\db30" and never give me the "repair" option, although, at the point of freeze, there are 140 errors ccounted-up. Any solution to this problem?
Do you know if that file is in use? Instead of choosing to clean/repair, you could choose to ignore that item and allow the repair to continue. Are you sure this is the registry scan and not one of the other scans since it's a file and not a registry location? Could you clarify exactly which scan you are running?
Thanks for the response. I click the "clean your registry" button, the scan begins and files are rushed by during the scan, when the file reaches a file named "C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSN\db30" the scan freezes each time that I run it, with 140 errors, but does not give me a "repair" option (or any option, for that matter. The program and scan are just frozen. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
David
If you look in the \Program Files\Norton Utilities 14\Logs folder during the scan you should see a file created when the scan starts. When you see it hang, open that file and look what it's doing at the last moment.
Thanks for the hint. I have gone to the Norton Utilities 14 log file, but find that it is created when the scan starts, but that it is only a text file that provides no real information that I can see. I've attached the log, which will show a scan of yesterday afternoon, but no useful information that I can discern. Can't understand why it stalls repeatedly each time it reaches the file "C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSN\db30" and has counted up 140-141 errors, but just hangs there and doesn't give me the opportunity to repair the errors it has found. Any more ideas?
Thanks,
David
There should be another log created. That will give you the details of what was found and where. Quick question, did you recently purchase NU 14? If it's been 60 days or less (we have a 60 day return policy) I'd recommend returning it and getting 15. There've been quite a few improvements made.

Yes, I did just buy an update combination package of Norton Utilities Premier Edition and Internet Security 2011, including Norton Online Backup. The Norton Utilities disk contains the same version of Norton Utilities that I currently have installed (from last year's combo package), Norton Utilities 14.5. I purchased this 2011 edition on February 17, 2011, at my nearby Office Depot store. Where can I return this for the version that you refer to, Norton Utilities 15, with the improvements? The version of Norton Utilities is not specified on the packaging and I see that it is the same version that I already have installed on my computer when I insert the NU CD and it prompts me "install NU 14.5". I feel certain that my Office Depot store will not be eager to replace the NU disk from the package - what can I do to get the new version 15?
Thanks,
David
If you contact support they can help get you set up with a return of 14 and purchase of 15. It's common that returns sometimes are sent to us rather then the retail store.
