Norton Utilties 16 stops Windows Search and Indexing in Windows 8.1

Norton Utilties 16 stops Windows Search and indexing.  This never happened in Windows 8 or 7.  A restart attempt of the Windows Search service produces an Error 2 - cannot find missing file message.  If the NU registry scan is rolled back Windows Search restarts immediately but it takes a while to rebuild the indexes which have apparently been deleted.  I noticed others had this problem in Windows 7 but this did not occur until I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1.

Yes, this is exactly the same error I encountered when I upgraded from Windows 8.0 to 8.1.

I have reported it to Symantec customer support, they appear to be aware of a problem but we have heard nothing yet about an update patch.

There is another forum here: Re: Norton Utilities 16 for Windows 8.1 where I posted my message initially.

Like yourself, you are are certainly not alone with this problem, I very much hope that NU16 is patched soon to work with Windows 8.1.

I am also having this problem.  I contacted a Norton support representative who instructed me to contact Microsoft (given the error message is and Operating System message vs. a Norton 360 message.  Does Symantec or anyone else have updated information on this issue.  I will likely look for another search utility soon if this is not corrected.  Any recommendations?

Hi,

Please run the Smart update to check whether the product NU is up to date. The Windows Indexing issue is fixed for the future registry clean scans. If you have already ran the registry clean and not able to restore the Windows Search and Indexing , then please use the following KB article - https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v95031677_EndUserProfile_en_us
