Norton Virus definitions and Broadcom

I am a new Norton Security user and love the product and protection it offers. However lately I came across a post which raised my concerns - With the sale of Symantec Enterprise Business to Broadcom, have Norton handed over their virus research and threat labs to Broadcom ?

Does Norton maintain a separate virus research unit that will contribute towards the growth of the product?

I too am banking on the new merger as a solid way forward.

I personally believe this new Norton / Avast merger is forward thinking the areas in question.

Thanks Peter. According to the SEC filings (https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/849399/000084939920000004/nlokfy2010-k.htm) - under the Risks segment (RISKS RELATED TO THE BROADCOM SALE) - Norton highly depends upon the services of broadcom - if at somepoint in the future they decide to stop providing services for Norton we may lose access to threat intelligence, definitions etc. The situation looks volatile for Norton after the acquisition

Norton was a home consumer branch of Symantec before the Broadcom sale. Norton never had their own virus and threat labs. They used the Symantec resources. Nothing has changed with the purchase, except the name on the letterhead.
