We just moved and do not have regular internet service yet. I use our T-Mobile Galaxy S-22 Ultra wi-fi hotspot to connect. Norton immediately starts to cry and turns on the VPN which in turn kills any internet connection. Setting Norton VPN to NOT connect automatically doesn't stop the crying but I have to reboot the computer to connectivity back. What gives?
Have you set up a strong password for the wifi hotspot? If not, that could explain why Norton is starting the VPN.
Open the new My Norton interface and click on the down arrow beside the Turn on/off for the VPN feature, then click on Settings > Auto VPN. That setting controls the feature being turned on automatically for compromised or unsecured networks. If it is on, try turning it off and test.
Our computer is using the Galaxie wi-fi hotspot to access the internet. Norton is on the computer - HP laptop and Acer desktop. Norton keeps insisting on starting up the VPN even when I turn it off.
Sorry for the late reply.
To confirm. You are using the wifi hotspot on your phone to connect to the internet on your PC?
Which device has the VPN enabled? Be sure you only have one device using a VPN at a time, or it could be causing the issue you are seeing.
And if you are using your cell data to provide the wifi hotspot, the cell data is already encrypted, so you do not need a VPN at all.
