I was at my Dr's office for a treatment (2/19/2024 between 3 and 4 PM EST) and I took my iPad (WiFi only) with me so I wouldn't be bored silly. The Dr's office has a public WiFi (which I had successfully connected to in the past with my iPhone (iPhone 11)) which I was attempting to use. While my iPad would connect to the WiFi, Norton 360's VPN would not connect to its server. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Norton 360 app. I finally gave up when my treatment was complete.
When I returned home I tested the VPN on the iPad via my WiFi and it connected with no issues.
Was Norton's VPN server down for a little while yesterday? Could the Dr's WiFi router be blocking the VPN?
What iOS versions are on both devices?
The network did not require a password.
Unfortunately I had never tried to use my iPad on any other WiFi network other than my home network. As I had mentioned in my original post I had used my iPhone 11 on that Dr's office network and the Norton 360 VPN had no issue connecting.
It does sound like something specific to the Dr's office network. Without logs, Norton would not be able to diagnose this. Did the network have a password required to access the network? If so, the VPN would not be as important as data would already be encrypted to the network's router. It is the networks that just connect without requiring a password that are dangerous.
Have you had any issues with any other public Wifi networks?
