Just upgraded to 1GBIT/S internet and did a speed test. Noticed the slowness from the start.
Computer is quite quick and has 64 Gigs of ram SSDS and generally has no issues. I run a NAS through the network and that is reveling in the new connection.
Speed difference VPN on Download 174.56 mb/s and uploads 5.02 mb/s
VPN off Down 927.19 Mb/s and UP 46.82 Mb/s
I like the VPN concept but I don't like it that much. Anyone else having this kind ofissue. There doesn't appear to much information and now we are all being treated as McDonalds customers you can't have a chat to sort it out either. You get a virtual agent that makes you read 3 tons of rubbish that is irrelevant to your issue but now to get real help you have to pay a premium price not that you haven't already done so. I pay 2 years in advance for 5 Licenses, now kind of regretting it. At least both Norton and I have some time to sort this out and if we can't see eye to eye we can part ways should the time come.
Anyone had this issue and solved it I would be grateful for any assistance. Just to make it clear I don't use Password Managers, cloud storage or any high overhead software, aside of course Virus Checkers themselves.
I do my own backups on the NAS and use CClean to keep everything tidy and quick so I use about half of what Norton is offering.
My iPhone app now shows a setting for "Fastest Server". When will Windows get this setting?
The Windows version does have this. It just does not make note of it. When you use Automatic choice of region in the Windows version, the VPN feature checks for the best connection, including speed, and makes the connection with that server. I am in Canada, and have occasionally seen the connection made to a US server because it was determined to be the fastest connection.

Note: Norton product support is free.
Did you try "My topic is not listed above" => "I still need help" =>
Note: when you're in Chat dialog & want to connect with a human agent & see Type your message here... => type "Live Agent" until you see We are connecting you with a human agent...

Hello. What is your OS, its version and build? It also appears you are using the Norton APP for Windows vice the installed suite? Please correct me if I am mistaken. Any other A/V software other than Norton on the system?
Straight away, all VPN's will slow your connection speeds to some extent due to the transfer of data through those servers supporting the VPN. Not to the extent being shown here. Conversely, from your screenshots, specifically where the VPN is NOT enabled your "upload" speed should never be less than 1/2 your download speed. Your NAS could also be a part of the issue at hand depending on how its setup and being managed. Have you cleared/reset the Norton firewall to see what difference that may provide?
With Norton VPN enabled, I consistently get no less than 3/4 full speeds up and down. We use the FIOS G3100 router in a NAT-NAT mode, their WiFi disabled, a personal router TP-Link AX21 using its WiFi and all ethernet connections through the TP-Link router. We are also direct ethernet to the FIOS ONT and properly provisioned. IMA! We never could see the proper UP/DOWN speeds with Gigabit and have never had any issues since downgrading to 500/500. Below is what I see with VPN enabled, we also do not keep our NAS connected to the network unless we are actively doing backups to it.
