I am running Win XP Pro SP3, NIS 2013 (20.4.0.40) and use Firefox 23.0.1 and IE 8.
Norton Vulnerability protection 12.0.0.380 - 1 is enabled along with Norton Toolbar 2013.4.2.2
When I perform a Google search in the main window of either browser, Norton will not display any of the safety icons (green OK, Norton Secured, etc.) next to each search result. If I do a Google search in the FF or IE toolbar, it will "wake up" this functionality.
Weird.
Other search engines, like Bing, do not have this problem.
Thanks for looking into this. Yes, your recommendation does work. However, it's too bad we have to disable Instant Results. This is a rather nice feature which I use quite a bit.
It would be nice if the propellerheads at Norton would come up with a "real" fix so we wouldn't have to use a workaround.
By the way, is Safe Web the problem here or is it Norton Vulnerability Protection?

There have been many reports of this issue. There must be some common thread for this issue but I cannot determine what it might be.
Personally, I am not having this issue. I still get the Safe Web indications in FF23.0.1 and NIS 20.4.0.40 with the Google Search settings at 'Onlyl when my computer is fast enough'.

Hi Meatball:
I think this a function of Norton Safe Web, which is a component of the Safe Surfing feature in the Norton Toolbar extension. If you disable (uncheck) Norton Safe Web in your Norton Toolbar settings and restart your browser, the site rating icons next to each Google search result will disappear. See my post here for a description of Norton Vulnerability Protection, which helps protect you from known security risks in any unpatched software installed on your computer.
Further to my previous post, I've done a bit more research, and some users have reported that Google Instant predictions might be re-enabled (i.e., your Google settings can be re-set to their defaults) if you clear your browser cookies - see here for more info).
If you have Google set to your default home page for your browser, a more permanent workaround might be to change your home page from http://www.google.com to https://www.google.com/search?q=Google (or in my case, https://www.google.ca/search?q=Google since I live in Canada; in the U.K. it would be https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Google). This workaround also circumvents Google Instant predictions without having to modify your Google settings. ------------ MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * Firefox 23.0.1 * IE 9.0 * NIS 2013 v. 20.4.0.40 HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

I should be the one thanking you - I didn't even notice that my Norton Safe Web site rating icons had disappeared from my Google search results until I read your post.
I couldn't find anything in the Product Suggestions board about this problem so I started a new topic here to bring it to the attention of the forum moderators. I hope they're working on a bug fix for this.

Hi Meatball:
I tested another option today that should work if you want to keep using http://www.google.com as your default search engine with Google Instant predictions disabled. Piriform's latest CCleaner v. 4.05 now uses a feature called Intelligent Cookie Scan by default, which allows you to selectively detect and keep persistent cookies that store login and settings data for common websites (e.g., google.com, login.comcast.net, etc.) - see Option 3 in the Piriform support article here for more info. This means that you can disable Google Instant results in your Google search settings as described in message # 2 of this thread and keep the cookie that stores this Google Search setting if you clean your cookies with CCleaner.
Since I live in Canada, I had to manually add the cookie for google.ca (not www.google.ca) in CCleaner's list of Cookies to Keep in order to retain my Google Canada search settings.
The only caveat is that if you have your browser(s) set up to erase your Browsing History on exit, you have to disable automatic cookie cleaning in your browser(s) and let CCleaner handle all your cookie cleaning.
