My computer came with a 60 day trial of norton 2007 antivirus, and now that the 60 days are up, i would like to remove it,because its presence blocks a game i am trying to play.
I uninstalled norton, and it worked fine, i could log in and update the game.My computer crashed in the middle of the update, and the next time I started my computer, norton was back on and blocking the game again(what the....?). I went into the windows control panel to remove the program again, and this time it's telling me "The specified module could not be found." I even tried to remove the folder through program files and it tells me "you need permission to do this" even though i am on the administrator level account.
My research has brought me many many times to this answer: download norton removal tool and run it to, well....remove norton....
I have downloaded the current version multiple times, as well as the version that is on the symantec site specifically for 2007 antivirus.
No matter what version i use of the removal tool, it tells me it has expired. I have found people online that have had the same problem and the tool has worked for them, but no matter what version i get, it won't work for me. The website it links me to (when the tool tells me it has expired) tells me to run a tool that deletes windows temporary files and try again. The tool is provided on the page.
When i click THIS tool to run it, it brings up a small window that i'm sure everybody is familiar with. This window describes that to run the tool, you should right click the small bar that appears at the top of the page and run the activex control, however, no matter how many times i try to open the tool, the bar does not appear to allow me to run the tool.
All I want to do is get this trial norton OFF of my computer, 100%, permanently, for good, with no intention of reinstalling or upgrading any version of this antivirus. I do not have a product key for norton, it came on my computer, and it is just not allowing me to uninstall it.
If anybody could provide any helpful information or links that will punch this stubborn program in the face and let me boot it off my computer, it would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated.
My OS is vista 32 bit home premium, and I have successfully removed norton from this computer before, and have been allowed to access the above mentioned game. This problem is happening after a reformat.
Hoping and praying and begging and wishing dearly on all that i love that somebody can help me....
