To cut a long story short, I managed to screw up a program on my computer, had to perform system restore back to a date where I hadn't installed norton 360 so I had to install it again. Because of system restore I still had avast antivirus and zone alarm firewall installed (although not installed :S, stupid restore) so I had to "uninstall" them again before I could install norton 360. I did as asked, installed norton and upon rebooting my computer I see that it's asking me to run live update, saying something about an error with updating. I tried to load up norton via start menu and via desktop shortcut and it doesn't work either way. Please help me :(
Hello Hunty
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
Did you use the removal tools for avast and Zone alarm before you tried to reinstall N360? I would suggest using the Norton Removal Tool and deleting N360 and then installing that again also. Please be aware that the Norton Removal Tool will remove all of your Norton products.
Please have your key handy for N360 which you can get from mynortonaccount.
Then use the Norton Removal Tool
You can download the Norton Removal tool from http://www.symantec.com/symnrt
Then you can download N360 again.
Norton 360 Standard Edition version 3.5

Norton 360 Premier Edition version 3.5
http://www.norton.com/n360p_3
Please pick the appropriate link based on the amount of backup space you have. Please remember to run live update until you have no more updates and then reboot. Please come back and let us know if this helps.
Comcast Users
Please download your version from the Comcast Download page on the Comcast website.
How did you "uninstall" Avast and Zone Alarm? Due to the nature of the problem, I suspect the traditional Add/Remove Programs approach to unistalling will not work here. Avast offers a complete removal tool (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) that you should run to remove all the registry mess that Windows so kindly restored for you. I can't seem to find a similar tool for Zone Alarm online, but you should do a complete removal for Zone Alarm as well if possible.
Once you do that, see if Norton 360 works. If not, that may indicate that the installation was corrupted because of the remnants of Zone Alarm and Avast that Windows restored. If that's the case, you should use the Norton Removal tool (http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039) to completely remove everything, then reinstall from scratch. Try the approach in the first paragraph first and report back. After that, maybe someone with more experience than I can provide some insight so you don't have to uninstall Norton 360.
I used the uninstall tool for avast you mentioned before I re-installed norton so I suppose that has nothing to do with it now. I had to remove zone alarm by using add/remove programs. Should I just attempt to reinstall norton 360? If so would this void the disc I have, it says it can be used on 3 computers and I'm not sure whether that's 3 different computers or 3 times, if it's the later, this will be the 4th time :(
As long as you use the same key with the same Norton Account on the same computer, you can uninstall and reinstall as many times as you like. Go ahead and use the Nortong Removal Tool to completley get rid of the software and then reinstall. Let's hope that works!
Hello HuntyBigHead
If you have any problems with the activation and if it says you have used too many activations, you can contact Customer Support using the free chat feature. They are the ones who are very good with fixing these sorts of problems. You can contact customer support from this link if it should be necessary. Also back up any passwords that you may have in the security safe part of the program as the NRT will remove that also.
