While reading messages here got the flash that I had a problem. Followed the prompts and the quick fix didn't solve the problem. Suggested doing the R and R routine [that's remove and reinstall]. Did so. Ran updates and checked to see if I was current, not quite so ran LU again and all appeared to be well. All of that was about 30 minutes ago. The same error just presented itself again.
Suggestions? I've already considered a large hammer and some explosives but had to reject them - wife's asleep.
Shut down system overnight, ran NBRT and scanned 1,250,00 + items and found nothing. Rebooted and am on the primary drive now. All seems well, we shall see.
Reboot with or without running LU first eliminates the problem for 10 minutes. Then it's back.
Have run SAS from safe mode and eliminated stuff. Have run Malwarebytes from safe mode and eliminated stuff. Got a few more to run so will report back later.
Was your computer doing anything else besides reading these Forum posts at the time? I think it's very unlikely that you caught some sort of virus or malware from just reading posts in the Forum.
Nope, I don't think it originated here either. It is interesting that after a reboot it takes 10 minutes for it to return. A few safe mode scans turned up a number of things which have been removed but it is still with me
Yes it was a long one, but funnily enough I have just had the first warning from my NIS 2011 that Sonar has dropped out would you believe. see pic.
It is definitely the interaction with the newer version of NIS with the older one (NIS 2011) on a Dual or Multi boot machine and it won't be resolved till testing has stopped.
A variation of this problem appeared when we were testing NIS2011 while running NIS2010. The symptom was different but the result was similar. [old age may be setting in so the years may be off]
While the 'problem' did force me to do some serious housecleaning it did nothing to resolve the problem. I have done the R/R bit on all three programs and can reproduce the SONAR shutdown after ten minutes, almost to the second, on either NIS2011 or 360. NIS2012 public beta seems fat, dumb and happy through it all. Once NIS/NAV2012 replaces the 2011 versions our only concern will be 360. I doubt that many users, other than testers will be running different Norton programs on a dual/multi-boot system so there shouldn't be many complaints generated. And, it might provide the programmers with an interesting puzzle to solve between product cycles
