"not responding" Windows 7, Firefox browser, Norton 360 v4

I use Windows 7, and often get "not responding" when I am surfing on FireFox browser.

I Ctrl Alt Delete, and shut Firefox down. I can't get it working again until I restart the computer. This happens every day.

I have also got the problem (only twice so far) when using Norton 360 program. It just hangs. If I shut it down I can't restart it until I restart the computer.

I have disabled the whole Norton 360 program and the problem goes away, so I know it is a Norton 360 problem. What is causing this? How do I fix it? I would like to keep using N360 if I could.

This is a new laptop pre-installed with Win 7. First thing I did was install Norton 360. So no chance for bugs, Trojan ect.

Hi Flipu4it,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Let us know if you had any other security program which came as pre-installed in your computer. Also, let us know the version of Norton 360 you have, you can find it from Help & Support > About. Did you run a Comprehensive Scan with Norton 360? If not, try that one first.

You said :"Let us know if you had any other security program which came as pre-installed in your computer."

My answer: only Windows firewall and it is taken over by Norton 360. I have looked through Programs and could not find another security program, is there another way of finding out?

Product Name: Norton 360

  • Version: 4.2.0.12
  •

I Will rund a comprehensive scan now.

Thank you for helping me, this "not responding" is driving me nuts!!!

Done; This did not detect any problems.

Try uninstall and reinstalling your Norton 360. Refer to the instructions from the following Symantec Article:

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20071130124653EN

Make sure that you have all the Microsoft Updates installed.
