http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/nqgpedlr-toolbar-nqgpedlrdll-removal-instructions

Ignore any links to download any spyware removal programs, and follow the Manual Removal step by step instructions.

Hope this helps.

Remember to disable system restore, run live update, and do a full system scan after removal. (Don't forget to turn system restore back on after the scan).

If it still persists on your system, you will have to run a special removal tool designed for this type infection, let us know how you get on.

Ray_Riley, googling for "Vista Antivirus 2008" the first impression to me is that this must be spyware itself. So trying to replace it with Norton Internet Security was probably a very good idea. I hope you didn't follow any of those links though, offering to remove Vista Anivirus 2008 by doing a free scan on your computer - this might only result in even more infections. Never trust any website which you have not heard of and know nothing about. In case you have not done so already, do a full scan on your system using Norton Internet Security. Chances are good that Norton will detect and remove the spyware on your pc.

Hi Ray

Did this do the trick for you?

johna, the link you offered to “xp-vista.com” seems to me to be just one of those traps one might step into. At least my “Spybot Search & Destroy” has an entry in my hosts file protecting me from going to that site - and “Spybot Seach & Destroy” is a well known software that I think can be trusted. So, my advice to you, Ray_Riley, please don’t follow that link!

Papageitaucher, the link is not malicious. In fact, the instructions for manual removal there are very accurate, and in fact more thorough than other removal instructions for this infection. Why don’t you Google it yourself, then let us know if you have a better removal suggestion. I would be interesed to see it. I would suggest to you that Spybot S&D cannot remove this infection, I wouldn’t bring it into the equation.

Regarding "xp-vista.com", McAfee Site Advisor also reports this site is to be treated with caution - and McAfee is a major company for security software. Here's the link for the McAfee Site Advisor http://www.siteadvisor.com

Enter xp-vista.com in the appropriate field for site information.

As far as Spybot S&D - I didn't say that it would be able to clean Ray's infected PC, although it might, I simply said that it told me to beware of "xp-vista.com". Ray_Riley, maybe it would be a good idea to wait for comments from other users and especially experts from Symantec.

McAfee doesn't report the site as malicious, just that feedback from some users gave it a 2 out of 4 rating, propably because it promotes certain AntiSpyware programs in its posts..not an unusual practise.

I also invite this user to hold off and wait for further suggestions, but I wouldn't advise him to spend dollars on having it removed for him, for example through the Norton Virus Removal center.

By the way, here is the summary off the McAfee Site Advisor page about this site:

johna, I don’t think it is fair to point out only the green stuff, if you read all the red comments there you will get the idea why I tend to be cautious. I’m not saying that the site must be malicious - just to be cautious.:smileyhappy:

I was trying to point out that all McAfee tests on this Site came up with a green light. The only 'negatives', as you put it, are that 2 or 3 people submitted the site to McAfee for analysis for whatever their resons, this happens with even the most reputable sites, and as such from the results the site can be trusted.

I wouldn't have put up my original post if I did'nt believe this to be true. I have been using many sites for virus testing and removal, I can assure you I am extremely cautious in these matters.

Edit: I just wanted to illustrate one last thing about the Macafee Site Advisor and how to read it. This is their summary for Symantec .com, which comes out with a worse user rating analysis than xp-vista .com :

User Review Summary for symantec.com

This site is good (126)

This site spams (0)

Adware, spyware, or viruses (18)

Excessive popups (0)

Anyhow, johna, McAfee Site Advisor gives a green light for Symantec.com and a red light for xp-vista.com - there must be a reason. By the way, don't you have any faith, that Norton Internet Security will solve Ray_Riley's problem? I am still confident. :smileyhappy:

I think it already should have if it were going to. In any case, if his browser has been hijacked, which it has, it's too late.

He will have to manually remove the infection.

Let's try to help the guy.

Hi Ray_Riley,

Among all the other solutions presented here, I would also recommend that you follow the steps listed in the How To Troubleshoot a Suspected Malware Infection announcement. Some of the steps may seem complex, but they are effective in removing malware form your system. Thanks!

I would also Update your Norton Product, via LiveUpdate, and do a Full System Scan in Normal and Safe Mode.
