As a very long time user of NIS I was literally days away from my subscription running out. Rather
than renewing NIS I decided to forge head first into NS - Nortons newest security product. To cut to
the chase--I'm glad I didn't wait.
I opted to install NS 2015 over my existing NIS 2014. While some people may opt to first uninstall NIS
I had a sense that Norton would take care of the details and I think when you read on you'll see why I'm
glad I took this route.
Summary Impressions in no particular order:
- Installation was flawless, although to me it did seem a little longer than product upgrades in the past.
- Without me having to decide Norton took care of transferring all my settings to the new NS from NIS 2014.
- My local vault was maintained and is available in NS--This was my biggest concern although I'm not sure
if and when I get a new computer will I be able to establish a local vault again---I hope norton allows this.
- Overall graphic and control design is clean, well thought out and simple to understand. Minimization of
extraneous graphic elements allows me to quickly see check box or slide on/off button options as to the
various security decisions which could be made.
- Although I've only used 3 "seats" in previous NIS I do appreciate the ability to use 5 "seats" as I consider
IOS security options for my iphone.
- Live Update seems perkier than in past-- most likely due to some matters offloaded to the cloud.
- I unchecked the default ability to optimize the disk during scan operations as I thought this was unnecessary
during my day to day usage. However, I do appreciate Norton cleaning up temporary IE files during scan
operations as these are often a source of many a problem.
- NS finally did away with my personal problem of NIS prompting me to open vault even when I said no. Yeah!!
- I do appreciate the additional product features which may have been in Norton 360, but weren't available to me in NIS.
- While I can't quantify the feeling....I perceive IE to be a little faster with NS installed vs NIS. I know there was a
change in how NS no longer maintains some add-on for IE. Like I said I can sense it overall--I just can't say how much.
Overall, I consider NS a worthy upgrade and successor to NIS for me. I'm not looking back and other users can take
heart in knowing that the company who I entrusted for many years with security on my PC looks to have continued
the tradition.
Best of luck to all.............
