After Norton 360 Deluxe update 22.22.7.11, I now get NSc.exe - Bad Image C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour\mdsnNSP.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error -- Error Status: 0x0000022 message whenever I receive any notification popup message from Norton or when I try to access the Message Center. I have the 5 user version running on Windows 8.1 and never experienced this error message prior to the 22.22.7.11 update on 8/5/2022. I am unable to clear this message until I first cancel the popup message or Message Center screen. Any suggestions?
After a forced Norton 360 Deluxe update 22.22.7.14, I think—(it’s practically impossible to locate the version # of this software) I now suddenly get a screen message “NSc.exe - Bad Image C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Dell Data Protection\Security Tools\Authentication\Bin\DPoFeedb.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error – Try installing the program again, etc. etc” message lodged on my desktop. This message box seems impossible to remove and is MOST annoying. This Norton 360 is installed on my Dell Optiplex 9020 computer running Windows 7, 64 bit … problem seems similar to variety of same sorts of problems various users encountered after installing latest versions of Norton 360 Any suggestions?
NSc.exe Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly
Sounds like simple Windows file corruption. I think you need to go back to basics. It's easy to think too complex too quickly.
Try running a Command Prompt as Administrator then
SFC /scannow
This will remove Windows files as being a contributor.
Check you have plenty of disk space.
I did have problems downloading in Chrome a while ago where the downloads were incomplete despite it saying that they were fully downloaded. I had to turn hardware acceleration off.
I saw this once this afternoon after a Windows 10 update. As suggested, I ran Live Update and installed the hotfix. After a reboot there was no message. I'm on version 22.22.7.14.
Disregard my previous post as this did not work.
The hotfix from Permalink seems to have resolved my Message Center issue. Thanks. By the way, I did not reinstall iTunes or cancel a Smart Scan prior to installing the hotfix.
Thank you for reporting this behaviour. We have released a hotfix for 22.22.7.14 that will fix this issue. Please run LiveUpdate and apply all the patches. Should the issue recur, please let us know. Thank you.
I think I may have found the solution. Please reply if this works. I think the issue is with Itunes being out of date and not automatically updating.
Step 1. Uninstall your current itunes. (This will be either the desktop version of itunes or the one installed as an app through your microsoft store).
Step 2. Install the latest version of itunes through the Microsoft Store ONLY. (DO NOT INSTALL THE DESKTOP VERSION FROM THE ITUNES WEBSITE) and follow the standard prompts. (Itunes will want to automatically remove certain components, just follow the prompts and allow it to do what it is asking).
Step 3. After the installation has finished reboot your pc. Now the problem should be solved.
For the sign-in problem that results in that error, I did figure out a workaround to be able to sign in. If on the orignal view page, you hit run smart scan, canel it and then hit the home button on the new overview page. From there you can sign into your account w/o the error. This doesn’t solve the other auto update problems, but at least it ties to the account subscription status.
Really looking forward to a solution to this (Norton 360 Premium, 10 PCs). I am hoping I'll get an email whenever this topic gets a reply.
Thank you for reporting this issue. We are looking into it. Once I have more information, I'll post an update. Thank you.
Same error here (NSc.exe - Bad Image), on a brand-new HP ENVY x360 2-in-1 laptop running Win11 x64 with Norton 360 Deluxe (5 Devices). I don't think this computer utilizes Bonjour; but I wasn't going to uninstall it...at least, not yet. Note--my Norton version is 22.22.7.14.
Same exact error. Win10 x64.
Update error asked for reboot. Rebooted.
Launched UI. Hit Sign-in and then got the error.
Tried reinstalling, but same error.
Last post got it exactly, after my pc did some Norton update yesterday and installed the new Theme that is much harder to see I am getting this error.
i have the same issue after updating norton to the new version with the new colors, error attached
Same Problem, I don't have Apple software or Bonjour installed but Norton is not working correctly, keeps throwing up this error ever few minutes and it takes 17 clicks to make it go away. SOLUTION NORTON?
Bonjour was installed on my computer on 4/10/2020, the same date as Apple Software Update and Bonjour is listed as an Apple application. My daughter has an iPhone and has infrequently used my computer to update or backup her iPhone and iTunes, so I assume that is why Bonjour is there. But the point is that it has been there prior to the Norton 360 22.22.7.11 Product Upgrade and yet never reared its ugly head with the error while viewing Norton notification popups, Message Center or Scan Reports on prior versions of 360. Something in this Norton Upgrade must be trying to interface with Bonjour. So far, I have not seen this error popup while interfacing with any other application. I tried to STOP the Bonjour Service and END the Bonjour Service task, but the error popup did not go away and Bonjour Service restarted on a reboot even though I cannot find it in the Startup list, unless it is included in the startup for iCloud Services or iTunes Helper. So not wanting to Uninstall yet, I did try a Repair on the program, but nothing changed after a subsequent Restart. I guess I will have to live with the error unless Norton Support discovers their problem. Thanks for your interest and suggestions.
Uncle Dave:If there was supposed to be a 2nd Product Update to correct the Bonjour error, then I didn't get it.
Curious, do you need Bonjour? If you didn't install Bonjour for Windows manually, the most likely reason is that it was installed by an application that relies on Bonjour functionality. Do you run any programs that rely on Bonjour? I've often read staff & experts over on Malwarebytes Forums...recommend removing Bonjour...if you do not use Bonjour. Just saying.
Uncle Dave:
[...] but still get the Bonjour\mdndNSP.dll error.
Yes, I have run LiveUpdate several times since the 22.22.7.11 Product Update and only received Protection Updates, but no 2nd Product Update, thus I am still at 22.22.7.11 version. Furthermore, when the new 22.22.7.11 initial load classic screen first came up there were 4 unread messages in my Message Center. Trying to read them, in addition to the Bonjour error popup was another Norton screen about Explorer no longer being supported, even though my default browser has been Edge for nearly a year. Thinking there was another default browser setting in Norton, I clicked on an update icon on that screen which then did a complete refresh of Edge after which I checked About Microsoft Edge which said I had to restart Edge to complete the update. Unfortunately, I forgot to note the current Edge version at that time. So, I exited Edge and tried to relaunch which got several minutes of small spinning circle which stopped without launching. I repeated that launch sequence several times with no success. Finally I got no response or circle when I clicked on the Edge icon with no launch, so that is when I did a Restart command from Settings / Power in desperation. After restarting, Edge did launch OK and About Edge showed version 104.0.1293.47 (64 bit). So, I no longer get that browser unsupported message, but still get the Bonjour\mdndNSP.dll error. I simply move that Bonjour error popup to the side and can read all the Norton messages and reports just fine, then when I close the Norton message, I am able to terminate the Bonjour popup and close Norton. If there was supposed to be a 2nd Product Update to correct the Bonjour error, then I didn't get it.
