NSc.exe Error 0xc0000142

Yeah I just was listening to music on YouTube and enjoying my screen saver and noticed this error message box. I wasn’t sure at first it was related to Norton but I searched for NSc.exe and sure enough it’s a Norton process. It is worrisome because if NSc.exe fails to start, something is undermining it and poses risks to security. Just throwing this out there.

Thanks
Regards w Respect

I ran the three tools mentioned in the third party site. Everything checked out fine. The holidays are upon us and take precedence over this. If I see this error again I will update the thread. In the meantime I will leave screen saver turned off.

i'm not going to uninstall and reinstall norton because as soon as i do that, if there IS malware, it will jump on that opportunity to get underneath whatever norton has an iron fist on presently. i'm not sure what "product" i have. i've never been clear as to what norton product i have because there are lots of services and its always askin for a lil extra $$ for features and things that i guess werent included already?? operating system version/build = windows 11 pro insider preview evaluation copy build 25997.rs_prerelease.231110-1241 i did take a picture of the message box before i restarted. it was a cellphone picture though. lets see... steps to reproduce issue 1. wait for your screen saver to activate. I used Mystify and checked the "show lock screen upon return" check box in the Screen Saver Settings window. its different from the new windows 11 settings windows. its more like an old school system32 windows98 screen saver settings window. like control panel era. 2. go walk away from your computer, or pay attention to something else for a while. (hmmmmmm.... right?) 3. picture below appears. NSc.exe failed to start code 0xc0000142. thats with 4 zeroes between c and 142.

1) i'm not going to uninstall and reinstall norton because as soon as i do that,
2) windows 11 pro insider preview evaluation

1) When you uninstall Norton 360.  Windows Security runs.
2) Hmm...fwiw ~ Norton does not officially support pre-release builds of the operating system.
3) Okay...fwiw ~ I still don't know if you've read/tried the solutions [here].

i would prefer to have my screen saver setting turned on. i will try to turn it off now just to see if it continues to happen. it seems like the screen saver settings page is the same from windows XP! time to move screen savers from control panel to the Settings app!!
