NSS 20.3.x Update for Comcast Users - When?

It's been three weeks since you made a Firefox 20-compatible update available to other Norton customers, but Comcast users with "Norton Security Suite" still haven't received the update and continue to be nagged that their version of Firefox needs an important update...

"A security and stability update for Firefox is available:  Firefox 20.0.1   It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible."

Or worse, others have accepted the Firefox update to the new version, only to discover that their Norton Toolbar containing all their login passwords has been disabled by Firefox, and discovered that the only way to get it back is to reinstall the old version of Firefox.  One would expect that since Firefox went to regular monthly updates last year, that by now this wouldn't come as any surprise that Norton's toolbar may need updating also.

Some blame Comcast, while others point to Norton, but I haven't seen where either party has taken ownership of the recurrently frustrating issue that continues to plague users of the Comcast version of Norton's security product.  This has been going on for a long time, like months to years, and it got old a long time ago.  Is anyone going to fix it anytime soon?

I agree with both posts.  This is ridiculous that it takes either  Comcast or Firefox this long to get this resolved.  Makes you either want to use IE or Google Chrome or something else.  Todays technology this should be a punch of a few keys on the keyboard and a fix!

The following posting by "dconn" seems to indicate that Norton may be acknowledging that they are to blame (i.e., "we dont have a fix yet..."):

Since this seems to be an ongoing problem, maybe we can figure out a workaround. I use the Identity Safe so much I hardly remember any passwords now. I have to dig them out of a paper file when I am forced to enter them manually.

But if we could just go ahead and allow FF to update, disabling the toolbar, is there an alternate password program, something like KeePass, that we could use and just drop Identity Safe? Has anyone had experience with any of these other programs?

Hi Puzzledlook,

I have heard good things about Last Pass and it has a Local Vault also.

If LastPass lets you store your data locally, I am going to try it out. I thought they made you put it on their server. Thanks.

Latest from Comcast:

"Good morning,

The Comcast Executive Customer Care department for the Washington Market has received your concern, via our Digital Media Team. We greatly appreciate the time you have taken to bring this situation to our attention.

Unfortunately, at this time there is no set release date for Comcast to update our version of Norton to 20.3.  Please know that your interest in having this version available to you does not go unnoticed.  Thank you again for bringing this to our attention."

From the people who brought you:

"We'll be at your house tomorrow between 7:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M."  :smileyfrustrated:

Good to hear landrex74 - know what I have been doing while I have been waiting for the past few weeks?     refreshment.gif

Getting close to the time to consume an adult beverage along with the popcorn!

Have you guys checked your Comcast N360 v20.x's LUs lately? ;)

Hi Pi - long time no hear anything from you - hope all is well.

As a matter of fact, yes I have been checking my Comcast Norton Security Suite LU's religously - at least 10 or more times a day for the last couple of months.  I also have missed the NTB FF20 add-on update - probably because Comcast NSS also missed the 20.3.0.36 update that was required for the FF 20 NTB add-on update to come through. If I rememebr correctly  - that is two upgrades Comcast has missed since Version 20 came out  - but I was thankful even though we missed the vrsion update we did manage to get the FF 19 update without the version update.

Just so you are aware - there are many folks upset with the ill-handling of updates in regards to Comcast Norton Security Suite.  I don't know whose team it is that is falling down on the job - but I* am sure Tony will be glad that I am not ranting at him this time.

I wonder how long this post will remain active.
