I have a question. I hope someone can help me with.
Last wednesday I got a prompt by the Norton Firewall indicating that NSSSetup.exe was attempting to access the internet, and wheter I would permit it or not. I think in the past I did get something similar or I encoutner or read something similar, but I beleive it was NSSetup.exe. And I beleive NSSetup.exe is from Norton itself. But now I'm not sure anymore, I can't rememebr waht is was about I read, or in relation to what. Only that apparently it's something from Norton itself. So nothing to worry about. I was about to permit it this time to access the internet, but then I noticed the 3S's instead of 2, and it struck me as kind of odd.
Then I asked myself if its' from Norton, the installed antivirus, or the firewall, or some other product from Norton installed on the computer, why would it be asking whether to permit or not? That stuck me as odd too. So before I did anything I decided to google it. I got relatively few hits. The first one was from wakoopa.com, where they simply indicate NSSSetup.exe as a "system tool" and yes apparenty of Norton Security Scan. Some otehr site also indicate this as a file from Symantec, and that it can be trusted. Sounds reasonable, but I wanted to be sure, and thaught, well, surely there's some info about this on Symantec's or Norton's website. So I went directly to www.symantec But strangely I didn't get any hits on my search for NSSSetup.exe. From there I got to this norton community site. Same thing I did a search but found nothing. Isn't this strange? Or is it just me?
Since I did not get any info on it from neither Syamntec nor norton website, I remain suspiciuos. The next day (thursday) I got another surprise. When I turnen my computer on I got a screen from Norton Security Scan, indicating "A problem has occured that needs your attention."..... "This process is unable to continue because a CD or other media source was removed or disconnected. To continue, please re-insert or reconnect and click next."
I have not removed any CD or other media, and I'm connected to the internet. So I'm clueless of what's going on here. When I just click on next, nothing happens, the screen will close, and reopen again with the exact same message. I've tried re-booting, it reamins the same. I suspect this incident is related to the oen of the day before, bit I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here? And if NSSSetup.exe is indeed from Norton and can be trusted? Should I just have permitted it to access the internet? (then I would not have this problem today?) I've tried to look for support at the Symantec website, but could not find anything related, nor a chat-support, nor an e-mail to send this to. I believe there's a phonenumber, but I usually prefer to just write things down, also I'm not in the states so it would b ean international call for me, cotst...etc.
The only thing left to try was this forum. So I hope someone may provide some answers.
Thanks.
