NU Registry Cleaner

How reliable is the "Registry Cleaner" of Norton Utilities?

The interface and technology of NU looks identical to PC Tools Registry Mechanic. Now, Registry Mechanic wasn't that great in the past.

Looking for some honest inputs!

P.S. My OS is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

Hi FarGuddu,

Welcome to the forum. You are correct, NU 14.5 has the Registry Mechanic built in as Symantec took over PC Tools some time back.

Speaking from the perspective of a long time NSW consumer I always used to like the old Win Doctor. But about 2 years ago I switched to Registry Mechanic (before Symantec took it over) and I've never looked back since then. It simply finds a LOT more registry issues than the old Win Doctor. I don't know much about Registry Mechanic's history prior to about 2 years ago but I have had absolutely no problems with it during the entire two years I've been using it.

About 4 months ago I uninstalled Registry Mechanic and replaced it with NU 14.5 which of course has this built in.

My honest opinion is that I think it is a very good utility and also has a Registry Defrag built in as well. I've used this several times and have had significant improvements in Windows startup speed.

It is important if you install this to run Live Update to get up to the latest version as there was a relatively recent bug fix which resolved an issue mainly affecting 64 bit Windows. The latest version is 14.5.0.118.

Hope this helps.
