I am using Norton Utilities version 16.0.1.4 on Windows 7 Home, and on Windows 8.1 Pro; on both OS's when using 'Shred Files' its stated ability of "drag and drop specific files and folders directly into the list. . ." does not work. I must use the optional (and much more indirect) method of using "Click Add to browse your commputer."
Perhaps this will be fixed in an upcoming update, or the next refresh of Norton Utilities?
Unfortunately the most recent Norton Utilities update (version 16.0.1.7) did not address the drag and drop issue (still does not work) to shred files and/or folders. I thought they would seeing that it is an obvious defect in the program (the Shred files and/or folders module even plainly states drag and drop as a feature). Could you address this defect in the next update?
The Windows 8.1 Professional OS I am using is 64-bit. And in that article (via the link you provided) I know it says "All the major features of Norton Utilities 16 are available when you install it on a 64-bit version of Windows, except File Shredder."Yet in that same article it also goes on to say that "Norton Utilities 16 has a limited ability to accept files for shredding through drag and drop on 64-bit version of Windows." What is the limited ability on 64-bit Windows it speaks of?
Because we know that the available workaround of manually adding files and/or folders is not drag and drop; and although it is better than nothing, it is still much less than desirable. The ease of drag and drop is so much more direct and quicker to execute.
Maybe this drag and drop issue, although as you say "by design", will yet be corrected in an upcomning release of Norton Utilities. I hope.
We understand your concerns. Since the Norton Utilities product runs as 32bit application in 64bit OS, it will not be able to interact with 64bit applications (like explorer.exe) and hence, drag and drop doesn’t work on 64bit OS. In the upcoming releases of Norton Utilities, we would be including the support for 64bit OS. Thanks for your understanding.
