Norton utilities gives me a "Core product files have been modified. Please run Smart update or reinstall the product" error every time it starts. When I run update is says that it's up to date. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? I'm running Win7 pro 64bit.

Thank You. Works just fine as it is suppose to. Regards
The update seems to have worked for me also. Thanks Symantec for rapid followup.
Fixed, Problem Gone. Version update from 16.0.2.39 to 16.0.2.53.

Same problem for me, and smart update says everything is up to date.
Its been over 24 hours and it is still there?
Thanks for the update and reporting the issue. Always nice to know what's going on with issues.
I suppose when fix does happen we can close this thread as solved.
Just finished a Chat with Norton Support they are upgrading their Norton Utilities Server. They are aware of the error. They said run update after 24 hours and the problem should be resolved. I had four systems this morning come up with same error.

Thanks everyone for letting us know about the issue. We're working to resolve the problem. For now, if you see the message:
"Core product(s) have been modified. Please run smart update or reinstall the product"
Click the OK Button and continue to use Norton Utilities; it will launch once the Alert is ignored. Unfortunately, this alert will be seen for every launch of Norton Utilities. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Yep, this is a recurring problem with NU16 we see every year or two.
Closing this box allows NU16 to work normally.
Hi @Mohan_G,
Any chance we can get another fix for this, please?
Thanks,
Dave
Edit: I have notified Symantec about this problem.
Same for me. Problem did not exist when I activated laptop this morning (6 January); suddenly started appearing at home when I turned it on this evening (same day). Smart update says everything is up to date.
Same here, started up again this date at scheduled 7pm scan.
Uninstalled but kept settings, reinstalled & updated and error still present.
So again some update maybe for Norton Security this date has effected NU16 as it has done in the past.
Will hope a patch will be made "soon" and not have to wait over a month like last time as well as not acknowledging the problem.exists.
So would hope this time around that some one posts what and when.
