Numerous issues with NIS on Windows 8

When I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 a couple of months ago my NIS 2012 remained working just like before. Then I installed a newer version of NIS (2013) and everything seemed to be just fine as well.

Recently, I've been experiencing numerous issues with the software.

Google Chrome would randomly stop loading pages. Usually, it would happen after a browser update.

Only disabling the Norton firewall would solve this.

Then, the in-game Steam browser would also stop loading pages while the firewall is on, despite me still being able to play games online. Again, changing the settings of NIS would do nothing to solve it and only disabling the firewall would.

Now, NIS doesn't appear to block my browsing activity anymore, but there's a much bigger issue.

When I have NIS on my computer it will not let me install any programs. I run the .exe files and nothing happens. Sometimes they just stay on the processes list in the task manager, sometimes not even that. Disabling the Norton antivirus or firewall has no effect on this. The only working solution I've found is completely removing NIS. Then the same programs start installing immediately.

Right now I'm forced to not have NIS on the computer. It's been this way for a few days, even though I still have a valid subscription. I'm considering not renewing it once it expires. That is rather sad, because I'm not satisfied with other security suites either.

What I want to try before my subscription expires is to install an older version of NIS, that is 2012. Is that possible? How do I download it and make sure it doesn't update to the 2013 version?
