Older versions not activating

Hello,

I have many (as in 100's) computers in the field that have NIS 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 installed.

Until now when the year subscription expired I had no problem buying more keys and reactivating them but all of a sudden in the past few days I've been getting a message 'This is not a valid product key and cannot be used to activate this product' !?

This was a 5 user key that I had used for NIS 2009 a few days before and it worked no problem.

It seems to me that Norton all of a sudden blocked all keys from working on any version on NIS older then 2013!? Which is a big problem for me being that I have like I said probably close to a thousand computers out there it's not really an option for me to update all of them now!!

Thank you

There were some issues with 2013 product keys not working with earlier versions of the products.

Just contact Support as Hugh suggests and they will issue you with a functioning key.

I knew about the 2013 key glitch but just didn't think of it!

That is why we work as a team....:smileywink:

Thank you both for trying to help!

I have a few keys, do you think they will issue me a few new keys?

Also one of the keys I bought directly from Symantec through clicking on 'subscribe now' in NIS 09 but I still got that error message, I would guess that, that key is not a 2013 key and it is also no working!!??

The key you had from the subscribe now link may have already been used. Remember that even though you only used it on the one machine, the key is only good for one year from the first activation. If you still had 2 activations unused, you cannot use them now.

As to how many keys they will give you, they should be able to exchange as many keys as you have. Only they can tell you for sure.

Let us know how you get on.

I bought the key yesterday (not a year ago)

PS any clue how I can get Norton Staff member to notice my post?

Tag  team day

The best route to resolve activation is the online customer support, not here in the forums because even Norton Staff -- names in red -- who come here have to contact the support team .... "our" Norton Staff are nearly all programmers and QC people working on the programs which is why they are so wonderful.

<< To contact customer support Click on this link https://www.norton.com/chat  and work on from there.  >>

Those people have the tools to check exactly what you have against the central database and fix things that are not right -- like the backwards compatibility.

As Hugh notes above, there is no way to access or work with subscription details on this open forum. Norton Employees, names in bold red letters, do browse the forums daily and jump in when necessary.

Your best course is to use the online chat from the link Hugh provided. Those agents can access subscription details and can issue you replacement keys as necessary.

OK, I did an online chat as you guys suggested and basically it seems that Norton/Symantec is not renewing older Norton products anymore!!??

Here is the problem with that, Being that I have 100's (maybe even 1000!) computers in the field that have an older version of Norton, it is not really an option for me to upgrade all of them as you can all imagine! So what am I to do?????

If you are trying to manage that number of systems, I would suggest using one of Symantec's small business or enterprise products that allow you to manage a larger number of systems remotely.

www.symantec.com

I don't believe that any of their other products would work in my situation! I have many small separate customers not one big customer with many computers!?

LiveSubscribe,

I really doubt that is literally true and maybe there was a misunderstanding.

If I go to Upgrade/Renew on the top bar of the Forum website screen and pull up that page and then in the right column click on Renew I get this -- arbitarily selecting NIS --

capture_09102013_184523.jpg

Now I can't say what happens if I do select and go to Renew because the Renew button is non-functional on my system for some reason and since I don't want to renew ......

Certainly I've not seen any advice to us volunteers that Norton won't renew earlier versions BUT if you mean Renew and continue to have the same version then I could just understand the CHAT people saying Norton don't Renew and only Upgrade.

But you say that you buy Keys ( I hope you mean buy copies of the software either physical or for download from reputable sources since the sale of KEYS alone is not authorized by Norton from what I understand) and I've not heard of legitimate keys not working on earlier versions since 2009 EXCEPT

-- There has been a glitch with certain 2013 keys that did not work backwards but Norton OnLine CHAT will replace those.

-- Keys for at least one Simplified Chinese product are not valid on other versions of Norton.

Please note that subscription questions are strictly speaking not dealt with in the Forums but we are users like you and so take it as my best understanding.

Unless you fall into one of those two exceptions that I know about (or are buying keys alone) then we can try to escalate this since it certainly is of general interest to us users.

Are these subscriptions licensed to you or the companies you manage?

If you hold the licenses, there should be no reason you could not use the Symantec managed products.

Hi,

Can you please attempt activation now. Issue has been notified and resolved now. You should be able to activate older products with different year key.

Kindly let us know if it works.

Thanks!
