@robertw_newton Hello and welcome to the forums. I have a guide to revert back to the last good build of Norton before the releases with the Avast engine appeared. The version is 22.24.8.36 .Please follow this guide:
Version 24.xx removal tool:

You need to completely remove the current 24.xx / 25.xx version. Then download the revert version 22.24.8.36 and immediately disable automatic updates. DO NOT allow it to run even once, and don’t run it manually. After removal DO NOT reinstall your product. Manually locate all folders that are named Norton, Avast or Symantec and remove them all. Reboot the machine and install the older version linked below.
