One click crash Smart Firewall problem

Internet Security says system at risk (Smart firewall is off), so I click Fix Now. As the Deffinition file error needed to be fixed.

After a long download (2+ minutes) the "Fix" starts to run but then I get error 3040.10001 and message      Norton Premium Service support player has stopped working

Clicking Check for problem does not work.

Norton netbook Internet Security

Version: 18.6.0.29

Was running fine for past couple of months.

No other security

I did just remove Norton Utilities Trial version

Have attempted two System restore from 3 and 5 days ago but neither ran sucessfully.

System restore frequently breaks parts of the antivirus.  Some settings and files are changed, but not all.  In order to do a restore to an earlier time, you must go into Norton settings and disable Tamper Prevention.  Otherwise it won't work.  Even if it works, it is likely to cause grief to Norton.

There is a Norton removal and reinstall tool, but when there are problems, I prefer to recommend that a removal through add/remove be done after saving your logins, reboot, run the removal tool, reboot, and do a clean install.
