Before you go through reinstalling the service can you try a couple of other items and let me know how it works out:

In the lower right, where your system clock is located, is the Norton Online Backup icon. If you right click on it you'll get a few options. Two of those is Check for Updates and Start Backup. Can you click on Check for Updates, log out and login to the NOBU web and see if the status changes?

In short your computer is losing its connection to the back end. As a result its reporting the computer offline. This can be caused by a variety of factors such as your computer going into hibernation, a firewall blocking the connection or something happening with the config of the local install. It is a tad harsh though to label a technical issue a scam before we've attempted to help you out.

Now if the above suggested items don't resolve it I'd like to set up a support session so we can gather some logs. From there I can have our engineering team take a look to see what else could be taking place.

My previous post on the following subject somehow disapeared from the forum. Here it is again.

On 6/4/2012 I had to reset my PC to "factory Settings".

In order re-initiate Norton ONLINE BACKUP, I had to do so as a 2nd computer.

Of course, the first comuper ,prior to restoring the comuter, is designated as "Computer not on Line" That is no surprise.

On 6/7/2012 I intiatyed on restore of the online backed up files from the computer prior to my restoring the PC to Factory Settings.

The Norton sight still says that "onlineDownload in Progress" And the norton sight reads"computer not online"

MY QUESTION IS: HOW DO I DOWNLOAD THE FILES THAT WERE STORED BY NORTON FROM THE PC PRIOR TO RESTORING THE PC TO FACTORY SETTINGS TO THE COMPUTER AS IT EXISTS NOW, AFTER RESTORAL TO FACTORY SETTINGS???????

I know not why my original post was deleted. But an answere FROM NORTON WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!

Hi Bill,

Hi,

Sorry that it has taken this long for me  to get back to you. When I right click on the norton ikon at the lower right corner of my screen, the choices appear. But when I click on" check for updates." ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS.

Ok. That tells me your computer has absolutely no connection to the backend. We'll need to do some additional diagnostics but directly with you. I'll send you a private message with contact details to reach my team.

All,

If anyone else is experiencing this issue and know the computer in question is online (with an active internet connection and no hibernation killing it off) please try the following. If it works for you please shoot me a private message:

* Go to the Norton Online Backup system tray icon, located near where you usually see the clock, and right-click on it.

* Select Check for Updates. If Check for Updates does not work - try selecting Start Backup instead.

* This should initiate a check to see if there is a new version of the client software. There likely won't be one but what this also does is wake up the connection between you and the server backend.
