There are a number of FREE and PAID security programs available to users. The choice in the end has to be yours. You have to check reviews of all the products from multiple review sites and make your decision based on your research.
Some free products may help detect adware types of malware that the paid versions do not focus on because they do not actually damage a users system or steal their information. They are often suggested as a secondary on demand scan to help round out your security protection plan.
Free programs MAY not be as effective in detecting the latest zero day infections that crop up by the tens of thousands every day. The Paid versions usually have behaviour based protection that should catch these infection types.
You have to remember that sometimes you get what you pay for.
