Open or save default_170665js (464bytes) from cdn.fastclick.net - How do you stop this pop up?

When accessing  internet explorer I get a pop-up asking to download a file from cdn.fastclick.net.

Open or save default_170665js (464bytes) from cdn.fastclick.net

Options: open save cancel

cancelling it and pop up is annoying.

Why can't Norton 360 block it ? How do i stop this pop up?

Norton 360 informs that system Status  is safe and secure and Protected

Also ran MRT and Malwarebytes' and found nothing

Any help is great.  I need this pop up stopped.

thank you

Rao

Yeahh, these are not viruses (and for an anti-malware solution like Norton to block them has, in some cases, been held by courts to defame them by labeling them as such).

Rao: do you have the popup blocker in your web browser enabled?

If this problem is ongoing (i.e., not confined to a website you happen to be visiting at the time), then there is evidently some code you let on your computer in prior browsing, or perhaps that "hitchhiked" on something you installed, that is inviting this. As such, there will be a way of digging it out. I am not a specialist in such things, but there may be someone else here who is.

Good luck--this crud is certainly annoying.

It looks like its a javascript (.js) pop-up ad (fastclick) that isn't necessarily getting blocked but isn't being executed either; do you have javascript enabled?

How to never see an ad again:  Firefox + AdBlock Plus addon.

It just popped up when researching on the internet. Can we do Add Block addon in IE 9? if so How?

Please let me know the steps to check  if  javascript is enabled?

thank you

Hi again, rao,

To check JavaScript, pull up a browser window and go to Tools==>Internet Options==>Advanced and scroll down to the bottom of the list looking for Java entries. Do not enable it at this point if it is not already enabled; just tell us how it's set.

Disabling it (if it is already enabled) might address the popup, but is a pretty drastic solution as a lot of helpful things (as well as a few malicious ones!) on the Internet rely on JavaScript.

Definitely.  After that, open Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations, scroll down to ".js" and read what is says.  Mine says Microsoft Windows Based Script Host.  If yours has that as well, try reinstalling it (Windows components IIRC) and run Windows Update afterwards. Ensure "Always use this program to run this type of file" is checked.

If it lists something else (yours may since I don't have Java installed and that may change it), you can try changing it to WSH, uninstalling whatever its listing, reinstalling whatever its listing, if you need it.  If that doesn't work, then try reinstalling WSH as well.

No AddBlock Plus for IE that I know of but I quit using IE since IE5, so I wouldn't know for certain.  Seriously; IE is terrible.  Its only purpose is to download Firefox.

Just try clearing all cookies & history from the Internet Explorer. Also, delete the Windows Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and prefetch folder. Restart the computer and check if you get the pop-up again.

Thanks,

HarryP
