I just downloaded YouTube downloader HD and inadvertently included smilies. Now, every few seconds I get an NIS alert that a fake application download was blocked.
Details are cdn.opencandy.com was blocked.
I searched programs - nothing listed for either.
Opened Revo uninstaller - nothing listed.
Am currently downloading MS Security Essentials.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of cdn.opencandy.com other than do a restore to earlier time?
Please download the free version, save it to your desktop, and remember to always update it before running any scans.
If the above doesn't fix the issue, you should sign up for help from one of these free malware removal sites where an expert can help you on a one to one basis:
The free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scanner Rainbow_2 recommended should detect this PUP (potentially unwanted program), but if it doesn't the OpenCandy FAQhere has a link to their removal tool under the heading How do I Uninstall OpenCandy?
Is the "Smiles" that was bundled with your YouTube Downloader some type of a browser toolbar? If so, you might be able to disable or uninstall the toolbar from the add-on manager of your browser.

I used the link to opencandy FAQ and found their "cleanup" tool and used it. Apparently that worked as I'm not having any problems so far. Also, downloaded the malwarebytes and it is currently scanning.
If any other problems, I'll be back with an update.
The smilies, I assume, are similar to Emoticons as they are used in emails, etc. Don't think I have to worry about them as about 30 mins after the download, I had an alert saying there was a critical problem and they wouldn't be installed.
I was just curious if you downloaded your Youtube Downloader HD from CNET's download.com. The user reviews on CNET here indicate that the latest version of Youtube Downloader HD is being bundled with PUPs that users do not have the option of declining during the installation process, and there are several software companies who have issued warnings that CNET is now using their own web installer to bundle PUPs together with legitimate software without the manufacturer's knowledge - see Insecure.org's open letter to their customers here for one example.

No, I went to the You Tube download site. I won't download anything from CNET anymore because of the problems with all the crapware that they try to push off.
That's why I was surprised that PUP ware ended-up on my computer.
At any rate, it has been removed thanks to all your help.
Thanks for the update - just glad you're up and running again. And kudos to SendOfJive for posting a warning here about CNET's download.com last week. I knew I'd read something about CNET in the forum recently but couldn't find SOJ's post until this evening.
