OpenCandy Yes-or_No Spyware and Adware... Malicious?

OpenCandy comes with some product installers and is used for scanning a user's computer and sending information to the main product and other product sources at install time.  If a user chooses to install included bundled software with the original product, then OpenCandy is also installed onto the machine.  Is this then spyware, adware, troublesome-ware, malicous-ware?  What is Symantec or Norton's understanding and handling of this?

So far, I downloaded one product installer which came with or uses OpenCandy.  I have not yet installed the product downloaded.  Norton Internet Security did not find any problem with the installer, and neither did MalwareBytes.  What should we know?

It is similar to Google AdSense, except it displays advertisements in installation program instead on a website. So it is nothing to worry about it.
