Issue abstract: Dealing with “Outdated device drivers”

Detailed description: After completing a system scan of my laptop I am always presented with an alert that I have some “Outdated Drivers” that may be slowing down my computer. I am then offered the opportunity to upgrade my product version to automatically fix this problem, Since I haven’t added nor changed any hardware on my laptop, and a Device Driver Update returns that I am using the best driver for my machine, can somebody please explain the reason I get this notification? How does Norton determine the driver for my machine is out of date?

Sorry about the weird version number. I can’t find the page where I got that number. Norton also updated the version after I closed the scan page.

I now have version 22.24.5.6

In addition to alerting me to 15 outdated drivers it also shows that I have 0 vulnerable apps. When I open the app and click on “Update” the computer tells me I’m using the best driver for that app!

Thanks

Hello Ed. DO NOT run the driver updater on your computer. The warning is a sell-up for Driver Updater. The latest version of Windows 11 is 22631.4037 which is the version after the August Microsoft patch Tuesday installs. Your drivers should already be the ones you need. I would depend on Microsoft and you OEM ( computer maker website ) for driver updates. Driver Updater can render your computer not bootable so please don’t take the risk.

Thank you for your opinion. (It’s the same as mine as far as being an up-sell attempt) After first attempting to update the drivers manually and being informed that I was already using the best driver for my machine. It just made me wonder about the discrepancy. I also use an external hard drive instead of the cloud-based back-up storage and have become annoyed with the program constantly prompting me to scan the disc every time I plug it in to do a back-up. Know any way of turning that off?

Are you Norton 360 v22.x?
Maybe, try USB Drive Scan Off => Apply

Also set the setting shown below to off.

@SoulAsylum
What’s difference between Removable Media Scan & USB Drive Scan?

Sorry, I didn’t get your mention tag. They both pretty much do the same thing. I have them both disabled on my installs. The one thing the OP can review which MAY be of interest is here. Have them check these settings. All my removable drives and local USB backup drives are excluded via this method.

and ext drive exclusion stops USB Scan popup?

Yes!!

Please post progress
Did you try [here] &or [here]?
Thanks

O.K. I’ve changed the settings to “Removable Drive Scan OFF” and will see if that stops the annoying behavior.
I have also done the same with the “USB Drive Scan”.
Now I wish they would go back to the previous version of Password Locker. The one that took me to the URL’s Log In screen when I clicked on the name in the list. I hate the latest version that send me to the Password Locker Edit page. Clicking on that little “Go to Site” icon was not an improvement!

fwiw ~ I’ve always imagined Removable Media Scan as CD/DVD tray…and USB Drive Scan as external drive.

I kept getting Outdated Driver warnings. So in the end, I forked out more money, which has of course been taken promptly. But when I click on the Update Drivers button, it just sends me again to the screen asking for money.
