Outlook express error

I am using NIS 2013 and receive 2 error messages when accessing my outlook express. One says " POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds" and the other says " Your server has unexpectantly terminated the connection #0x800cccof ".

Am using POP3, Port 110, Secure (SSL). I have contacted the server forum and they indicate a Norton problem.

I have increased the Outlook timeout to 5 minutes with no help. What do I do next?

Thanks

Rick

Hi,

Also it would be nice to know what version of OE the OP uses because Norton supports:

Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 or later

Regards,

XP comes with outlook express 6.

If it's a previous version of windows like 98 or ME you couldn't install NIS in the first place.

I never herd of a SSL connection using port 110.  I have only seen that port used for non-ssl connections.

If your really using or required to use a SSL connection you might as well turn off the email scanning because Norton can't scan encrypted mail.

Open NIS and click the "advanced" button.  Turn off the slider for Email Protection, select "permanently"

Then hover your cursor over the words "Email Protection" and a box will appear, click "ignore" to turn off the warnings.

Dave

" SSL connection using port 110. "

Most likely port 995 for SSL.

Regards,

Does it cost to upgrade NIS? My subscription is not up yet.

Haven't tried disabling SSL yet. Will try.

It was the ISP forum (Cox).

Windows XP SP3.

OE 6.

Will turning off SSL (don't know what that is) affect the security of my system?

If this email account worked before in that Outlook Express, please try my suggestion in message #4 first.

If this account never worked or your just setting it up now, please hold off on anything and let us know because you have the wrong account settings.

Hello

It does not cost anything to upgrade to NIS 2014 if you have a current subscription for NIS 2013. You can get the current NIS 2014 by logging into your mynortonaccount..

Perhaps the problem has something to do with the end of xp support, not by Norton, but by Microsoft.? But try Dave's suggestion first.

Hai bigred63,

Did upgrading to NIS 2014 solve your problem?

If not you need to check out this setting:
Goto NIS GUI(Main Window) -> Click settings -> Click Network tab -> Select Message Protection from left side pane -> Click configure (next to Email Antivirus scan) -> Under the section :What to do when scanning email messages -> Untick Protect against timeouts -> Apply -> ok -> Apply -> ok

Keep us posted...........

I have had the account for years. It was doing this before xp support ended. I will try Daves suggestion, then upgrade to NIS 2014, then try Nikhils suggestion if they don't work. It will be a week before I will be able to try these suggestions. If one of them works I will accept that solution. If not I will report back. Thanks all of you for the help.
