I run Windows XP 32bit with IE 8, I just updated to Norton vs6.0 and now my Spam Button is gone and the filter doesn't work. I tried something I read about disabling it in Norton and then restarting the comp. And then enabling it and the button comes back for one time. When I open it again it's gone again.
I have searched Google, Microsoft and your forums. Im pulling my hair out. Your Spam Filter is tons better then the Outlook filter.
2. This will uninstall & reinstall your Norton product. After that, run LiveUpdate repeatedly until you receive all updates. You may need to restart the computer in between, and run it 2-3 times.
3. Open Outlook Express & check the status of AntiSpam toolbar.
The Problem started after the upgrade from Norton 360 V5 to Norton 360 V6. The AntiSpam was working fine before and my version of Outlook express is 6.00.29.
The Great news is your Solution Worked!!!!! Thank You Sooooo Much!!!
It worked for about 3 openings of Outlook Expreess. Then it disappeared again. I have to restart the machine to get it to come back. But everytime I close Outlook and then reopen it the Spam Button goes away again. Then I have to restart to make it come back BACK to SQUARE ONE!!
I'm having the same exact problem ECept I am using plain old Nortons security.
I just formatted my drive this weekend and rebuilt my machine with XP. I also run a duel boot, with my drive split I run Windos 7 on the other drive. Otherwise same specs.
I also have the same problem. I'm running xp sp/3 with OE 6. It's been happening for over a year both on 360 v5 and 360 v6. I have to close outlook and reopen it to get the spam icon back. I'm now on 360 v6.1.1.8 still same problem.
I am the one who started this thread. I have removed and reinstalled Norton 6.0 and Uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook Express as you instructed.
I also sent you all the information about my machine I could.
Now I am in surprise mode. The Spam button shows up at its leisure. It is there sometimes or it is not there most of the time. Its like a special gift from Norton. LoL. No Rhyme or reason or pattern to when it shows up. I have watched carefully. So when it is not here I just create a rule for the spam. Shame I love your spam filter. So Frustraiting.
I went on live chat the day before I used the remover and she took over my computer and did much of the same things we all did.
She did however went into the client integration and shut it off restarted my computer and then turned it on again. we sat on line together for an hour and it seemed to be fixed, BUT the next day it was gone again when I turned on the machine the next day. At that point I unistalled it and System Works and then used the removal tool. I reinstalled it and it seemed fine until today, when it was gone again. I clicked support and it installed 2 updates to nortons security. It had me restart my machin 3 times and now I am waiting to see if that fixed it. My case file was left open in case the chatter's fix didn't work.
My case file is .
So as of now it seems fine but ............. we'll see.
I am spending a lot of time here on this problem which I pay $70.00 to use SO I am getting concerned and may need a refund.
My spam button has not disappeared, and it has been a few day now since the patches installed when I clicked on support on Norton’s internet Security main screen.
(Please see my above message)
I do notice that that part of Norton’s Internet Security, the outlook integration and spam button does not set up right away at boot.
After the boot finishes, when my CPU meters zero out and the hard dive stop installing everything, the button is not there...........YET. It installs about 30 seconds after the initial boot. The CPU meter readings pop up again and the hard drives start clicking again AND THEN the integration and the button is there and it functions just as it has in the past.
Well today after checking my email this morning I left outlook express on as well as IE for about 2.5 hours while I was awat from my machine.
When I cam back and started to go through my new mail I wanted to tell NIS that a message I received was spam. I clicked on the button but the "this is spam" selection was dim. I shut off OE and turned it back on and Guess what No spam button.
I shut the machine down and restarted it and it went back to normal with everything working again.
So the problem is only partly fixed. Here we go again.
Here is a temporary workaround to fix this problem. You need to enable Auto-Protect at startup: 1. Start Norton 360. 2. Click Settings. 3. Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus. 4. Click on the Automatic Protection tab and scroll to Real Time Protection. 5. If Boot Time Protection shows Off, move the slider towards center to Normal. 6. Click Apply, and then click Close. 7. Restart the computer.
Note: This will likely have a slight impact on your boot time, slowing it down a bit. It shouldn't be too noticible, but you may see a small bit of extra time added to your boot.
We're still working on a permanent fix, but this seems to work well in our labs.
Gave it a try this afternoon. I have restarted my machine twice and opened outlook several times. It seems to have solved the problem so far. Thanks for not giving up on us!!
I've always used boot time protection and have had this problem off and on for more than a year. For me just closing and reopening OE will restore the spam icon but the problem always comes back. I've tried most of the suggestions and sometimes they seem to resolve the problem for as much as several weeks but then the spam icon just starts to disappear.
I agree, it's not solved. However, the workaround is effective and seems to be working well for everyone. We now have it available in a Knowledge Base Article:
My AntiSpam button goes missing after a Full System Scan. The computer has to be restarted after every Full System Scan and the Welcome Screen (AntiSpam Settings) has to be turned on in order for the button to show up again. Didn't have any problems with Norton 360 V5.
I have followed the steps for the temporary workaround enabling the Auto-Protect at startup. We'll see if that helps even more.
