Page Fault In NONPaged Area

I have a newer Dell computer with Windows XP home addition, and Norton Antivirus 2012..  I get the following message on a solid blue page.  Once the message comes up, the computer is frozen to the point of having to hold the button in to get it to turn off.  Has anyone any idea of what is happening, I have not installed anything since January. Do you think it is a virus, or a problem I need to take in to have fixed?   Please help.  Thank you, Shirley

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: RtkHDAud.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows update you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory options such as chaching or shadowing.  If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer press F8 to select Advanced startup options and then select Safe Mode.

The RtkHDAud.sys is an audio driver. The blue screen is a full system crash of Windows. It is not a virus.

If you do not see this again, you do not have to worry. It may be that Windows did an update that updated that file.

If it does happen again, go into Device Manager and right click on your Real tek Audio device, click on the Driver tab, and update the driver. If there is no new driver, then try rolling back the driver.
