OK thanks

Sorry about that!

One thing I forgot to mention is that, although I've not used it, I understand that VISTA (not sure if it's in all versions or not) has a stripped down partition manager in it. Apparently you can shrink an existing partition with data in it, if it has free space, and create a new partition in the unallocated space. Makes sense since that is what one most needs to do in many cases to make room for a new operating system.

However I believe it cannot do more than that, like merge or enlarge a partition.

FWIW since I've not actually used it and since I'm not in VISTA at the moment I can't check in HELP there to see where it is located. One would expect it to be part of Disk Management which comes under Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management if I remember correctly.

Is Partition Magic 8.0 certified to work with Vista?

Thanks

Yes I’ve used that quite a few times.  But it does have some limitations in expanding a partition into unallocated space.

Alas it is not only not certified, it is incompatible. Microsoft made some slight changes in the structure of NTFS and ...

Because of this I use Acronis Disk Manager Suite; I have tried the Paragon version but I did not like the difference in the user interface -- I'm sure it is technically good but I am more comfortable with the Acronis one which is more like the Partition Magic one.

It's a shame but Symantec have said they have no plans for further development of Partition Magic .....
