Interesting.

You should have moved d up.  Then extended c. Then resized d.  What may have happened is that you overwrote the mbr or something.  It is always best to do these things one step at a time so that you can check them as they go since all operations of this type happen in a dos enviroment.  Did you create a backup of c before you started (as recommended)?

You might try using the chkdsk /F command and see if the partition info can be repaired.

Is the D partition data or the original system load preinstalled from the manufacturer?

Are the partitions NTFS or fat32?

Thanks for your answer.

However, I still have some problems.

1."You should have moved d up." I am not sure how to operation this, would you please tell me what is 'move d up'? Is it clear the D partition?

2. Sorry, I did not create the backup of C partition. I even not created the boot CD from partition magic 8.

3. But I have my own boot CD, which is the Windows 98 emergency Boot CD.

4. The most problem is that I can NOT boot the DOS. It will stop at the command like 'boot the sector...'

5. I even tried to put it into another PC, then started the Windows XP on that PC, but I found the Windows XP will always stop at the big logo screen, keep loading and loading...

The system was installed by myself.

I do not quite remember the if partitions are FAT32 or NTFS.

Now, the data is not important, but I can not use the hard disk now.

OK.  I assume that the first partition on the hd was c

I assume that d followed c with no unassigned space inbetween.

In the graphical interface shown on the PM screen, simply drag the d partition to some place in the drive or use the dialog to move it up by (whatever) amount.  Then when that is done and you have rebooted, change c to end where d starts.  When that is done then change d to the size you wanted.  Since the drive is much larger than what you had it should have been easy.

Now, since that didn't happen,

there is another senerio.

If D was a recovery partition put there by (say HP, as they do) then it is the FIRST partition on the hard drive, and C is the second partition.  D will always be a FAT type partition since dos can't read NTFS.  In this case you should leave it alone.  In the windows enviroment, you will not see D at all, as the computer boots from its c drive.

Since you didn't create a backup of the c drive, nor have a bootable copy of PM8, you may be out of luck and have to start over.

Rule #1 is always have a backup before you do anything with partitions.  Rule #2 is only do one thing at a time so that you can undo them if you need to.  Rule #3 is check to see that everything you just did still works before continuing.

You can get the drive back by reformatting the appropriate partitions from the original windows cd, but of course, you have lost everything at that time.  You will need to be able to boot the original cd to re-fdisk and format the drive.   FDISK is a dos command, as is FORMAT.  Does this help at all?
