Password & User name

I think I have anew one for you.

When I change my password in NIS,  then go to " logins "  My password shows up as my Password and also my User Name.? Has anyone ran across this before? And is there a fix for it? It is a nuisance to have to go change User name before you can login to a site.  Any help would be appreciated.

Could my computer be compromised or have virus??  None found!

Hi jimmymac1944,

How are you changing your passwords?  The proper way to change log-in entries is to go into "Manage Logins,"  click the folder icon next to the name of the folder you want to access, click the name of the site and then change the information in the "Details" pane.  Or you can hover your cursor over the folder name in the Identity Safe dropdown list, right-click the site you want to change, and select "Edit."

Hi sendOfJive, I changed my "forgotten" account password by going to Norton Support and using " Nathan"  the Auto support site..

When I went into my " Logins" the new password was in both the user name and the password boxes.  I then proceeded to change my user name back to what it was. And hide the password.

I am thinking my computer may be compromised by someone / thing. Messing with me. ( Not in a malicious way) , but just to frustrate me...

Is this possible>  I find my passwords seem to change without my knowledge and when I open " Internet Explorer " , and check in " Win Task Manager " / " Processes"  it looks like " Explorer's"  has been opened several times, all under " Owner"
yet it is only " running "  once in Applications.

The one may not have anything to do with the other, it is just another strange happening on my system.  any help with the Password problem would be appreciated.

Hello jimmy

Does the mac in your user name mean that you are possibly using a mac?

No sir, the mac is part of my last name . Can you help?

Duh!  Iam using Widows XP. on an HP PC  :)

Hi jimmymac1944,

I assume your password and user name for your Norton account are working correctly now that you have reset them in Identity Safe?  It sounds like the IDS login fields got confused when you changed your password on the site - nothing to worry about, it happens sometimes.

Internet Explorer will run many processes simultaneously because every tab you open is maintained as a separate process in order to prevent the browser from crashing due to one tab going belly up.

I doubt that your computer is compromised.  There is no money in frustrating users, and malware these days is all about making money illegally.  All computers have occasional moments of apparently random behavior that experienced, as well as inexperienced uses, may find puzzling.  Usually there is a reasonable explanation.  I wouldn't worry about it unless it is something persistent that you know deviates from the way the PC has always operated in the past.

No relation to the Martha & the Vandellas song either, I suppose.  :smileyhappy:

Thank you SendofJive, I have been able to set my account passwd.  The problaem is when I open "NIS" and click on settings I get asked for a password. I haven't used this app in so long that I have lost my passwd. for it..   My account passwd. won't open the " settings" app in NIS.    "Logins" has the same problem.   DUH!  I feel so stupid.. I should be able to do this, but like I said it has been such a long time and my old memory isn't what it used to be  LOL;

I think they wrote that sng for me :smileywink: :smileyhappy:     :)

Hi jimmymac1944,

You can reset the Norton Settings password by launching the Norton Uninstall process and using the password reset option shown in the window (you do not proceed with uninstalling the program).  Click the Reset Settings Password link in the bottom corner of the window - DO NOT CLICK EITHER OF THE UNINSTALL OPTIONS.  You will just need to type in the random key that is shown and then enter your new password twice.  If SendOfJive had designed this, you would also have to enter your current password, but luckily for you I was never consulted.  Here are the full instructions:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=v44151547_NIS_Retail_2011_5_en_us&ln=en_us

For the Identity Safe, you will be able to regain access by resetting your password, but you will lose any saved login and forms data.  To do this, simply enter an incorrect password twice when prompted to login to Identity Safe.  After the two tries fail you will be given the option to reset the password at the expense of your data.

Hi SendOfJive, That worked.  Thankyou so much!  I've been going round & round with this problem for a while...  Never thought about trying to uninstall....  LOL.  Thanks again.
