PC "At Risk" and "Fix Now" not working

When I left work Friday afternoon, Norton 360 was working perfectly. When I turned on my computer this morning, it said that my computer was At Risk because Auto-Update, Sonar, and Antispyware was deactivated. Clicking Fix Now doesn't work. I tried to manually turn on these settings and hit apply. But then they default back to "off." Any ideas about how to fix this? Norton 360 has been working fine for the past month. I am running version 20.1.1.2.

Welcome,

Are you able to run any scans? Can you download, install, update and run Malwarebytes free scanner?

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

If you can't download that scanner try running a full 360 scan from the safe mode.

This is a work machine, do you have an IT department/person that might have made changes over the weekend or that can assist you?

Keep us posted

I'm not able to run scans. It tells me that my product is inactive. It is a work PC, but its a small business, so I am also the IT person (and my IT person is self-taught and not very computer savvy sometimes). We didn't have any updates this weekend. My computer stays off from Friday night until Monday morning.

Hi cyngust,

Please verify System time and date are correct.

Please reboot the PC and do not attempt to do anythng on the PC until such tme as the Norton Icon is displayed on the System Tray and has a green checkmark on it.  Any joy?

Have you downloaded (and ran)  MBAM as dickevans suggested?   Results?

Have you tried a full system scan in safemode?  Results?

Please answer our questions.

System date and time are correct. I was able to download Malwarebytes and have been able to run a quick scan. I tried restarting the computer, but that didn't fix the error. Since I need my computer for work, I haven't had the opportunity to run a full scan in safe mode yet.

Hi cyngust1,

Open Norton and click Support > Subscription Status.  If the issue is due to the local program having lost track of your subscription period, the Subscription Status Check will fix the issue.

Try running a full system scan with Malwarebytes. Maybe on your lunch break?

OK, thanks for the feedbak cyngust1.  I understand abut the full system scan having to wait, sa you need to work.  One more quick check.  Do you by chance see something similar to this?  Bear in mind the screenshot is from Comcast's Norton Security Suite ( a clone of N 360), so there maybe slight differences in the layout, but the screens are nearly identical.

I have circled the Details, if you click on details, it will open another page and provide you with addtional info, which depending on what is in error it may or may not be helpful.  Can you look at the details and let us know what it says?

NSS Sonar Alert.png

Subscription says I still have 334 days remaining. Running a full scan now. The quick scan found no problems.

Here is the screen I have:

This is what happens when I click "Fix Now.":

Thanks,  we'll have to wait until a mod approves your images in order to see them.

I messed with this same problem for hours yesterday, since nobody on this board helped.

- You need to dowload the norton removal tool (to desktop)

- Then go to add/remove programs.

- Click on Norton in add/remove

- Tell it to save settings for later (when prompted)

- Wait for it to do its thing (about 20-30min)

- Restart

- Run removal tool

- Restart

- Click Norton installation files folder on desktop (will be there)

- Click the little Norton box (looks like norton emblem in transparant box)

- Let it do it's thing (about 5-10min)

- Run live update about 3-4 times (will prompt for restart in between)

- That should catch you up to my current problem = Startup manager doesn't actualy display all items eben thought it "detects" them.

Will continue trying to solve on my own and let you know - since this forum is....pffft.

Norton = 117 days remaining = not even ONCE again (been customer for 5 years)

Hi cyngust1,

Thanks for the screenshots, as it appears to me your best bet at this point in time may be to Export your ID Safe (Vault data) if you use it for your logins and then run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool .   Please read the "Before you begin".   You may have to run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested) until LiveUpdate responds "no updates found".

Also if running the tool does not cure the problem, (even if the tool runs successfuly and does not give an error) you can proceed with the Go There Now as that would be the next step in the troubleshooting.

I see 360premier has also responded in this thread. Be advised they are chasing what they believed was a virus problem and now are having other problems - non associated or similar to yours.

No malicious items were found on the Malwarebytes full scan.

Hi,

Do you have any other security products in your computer like Mcafee or Rapport?

If so, uninstall it first. I would also suggest you to try updating the virus definitions using Smart Updater:

Thanks,

Oh gosh, does this really require an uninstall?
The exact same thing is happening to me...
Why is this suddenly happening, does anyone know a reason for it?
and is their an easier solution? I just installed Norton about 1 month on this computer!

Hi,

Actually if you  run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool as I suggested in my post above, it willbe an easy task.  It will remove your current install, save your settings and install and activate the latest version of your Norton Product all automatically.  You may have to run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested) after avctivation to bring it totally up to date - but the procedure really is not a hard task at all.

Sorry for the late reply. I was out of work for a few days with illness. When I returned, I restarted my computer in Safe Mode with network access disabled. I was able to run a full scan. No viruses were found, but Norton did remove 15 cookies. When the scan was done, I restarted the computer and everything was magically working again. I don't know what happened or why this worked. I'm just happy I didn't have to reinstall or go through complicated measures. Thanks for the help. Good luck to everyone with similar problems.
