PC Endless Reboots

When NIS 2011 was updating security definitions it locked up my computer.  After reboot my computer briefly flashes a blue screen and reboots.  I cannot get it to boot in any of the safe modes.

Hello art990

Your Topic looked lonely...

To that purpose....

Please advise Operating System / Service Pack / 32/64 bit platform

Do you recall NIS ver number

If you can... please expand << When NIS 2011 was updating security definitions it locked up my computer >>

Were you manually running LU

Have you tried booting with the NBRT

How are you trying to boot to Safe Mode

Any possibility you can turn off Auto Restart.
Start>Right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced Tab>Under Startup and Recovery click Settings. There uncheck the box for auto restart on system failure.
This will allow you to get 2 things from the BSOD. the Stop Error code. It will look like this:
0X000000ZZ where ZZ is a alpha numeric combination. Also a few lines down you will see in all CAPS a sentence or group of words that will also tell you what the error is.

As you have access to a working computer.....search << PC Endless Reboots >>

Hopefully the Community will chime in ...................

Thanks for making an effort to help.  The OS was Win XP service pack 2 (32 bit).  I don't have the specific version number for NIS.  I was manually running LU and it locked my system.  I have tried using NBRT with no success.  On reboot I am given the option to restart windows manually or try one of the safe mode options.  None of the reboot options work.

At this point I have little hope that I will be able to gain access to my PC.  I am able to read the drive when I connect it to another PC.  So I guess the filesystem is not corrupt.  I just cannot get windows to load.

Thanks

There are (perhaps you are aware) pages of information links with work around fixes related to << XP SP2 - SP3 PC endless reboots / related problems >>   At this point ;-(

FWIW there are (perhaps you are aware) pages of information links re << windows will not load >>

The fact that you were manually running LU when your system locked up....

I hope will bring help from the Community.

Hang in there ... hopefully some higher ups will chime in.

I presume you do not have an image backup..  may not work if you did.

I presume you do not have a WinXP boot disk... may not work if you did.

How are you trying to boot to Safe Mode.

Have you done a hard pw down & hard boot or just reboots.

Tell me more about your system..... as much info as possible.

Do you have a sense issue is software or hardware related.

Do you have a set of Recovery Disks... as an absolute last resort.... all else fails option.

Fingers crossed this will be resolved.

Hang in there ... hopefully some higher ups will chime in.

Something to read while your waiting for help.

If you run out of options or better ideas, I will tell you how to manually replace the registry from a backup in system restore if you want.

You would need to access the drive from another system again and be able to access "system volume information" and copy over some of the registry files.
