PC Total Defender Threat: beware that Norton does not stop it

Hello,

I have Norton Internet Security on several systems and one-system was recently attacked by a rogue application that Norton did not recognize or stop in real time. The street name of the threat is called PCTotalDefender and it has been around for @2-years but has increased over the last 9-12 months..

Since I could not find a removal-tool, at the Norton site, using any form of the current street name...I rebuilt the system and used several other spyware tools to test it. It took 5+plus hours to get all the software loaded and updated, so it is fair to day that "Moi is not happy".

Some history:

Windows PC Defender is a rogue anti-spyware program and is a clone of Ultimate System Guard, Windows Guard Pro and some others. This parasite spreads by deceiving users into downloading the program. It also relies on misleading advertising to trick you into purchasing it’s so-called “licensed version”, which is just as fake as the “trial”.

When surfing the web, you may encounter popups, such as these:

“Warning! Your computer is infected
Warning! Trojan Found!
File name: crss.drv
Threat name: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Sunfraud.a

While I understand that Norton cannot address all the threats/issues, PC Total Defender is not a new threat and a removal process should be on the site. If it is listed under other names (Trojan win 32.vb), that is not making it easy for the users to find it.

Best Regards,

Boston
