I think I found the answer. Is it correct that it is a know inaccuracy and that as long as pc tuneup is checked green, I am indeed protected?
How often is the optimization and registry cleanup supposed to run? BTW, the one and only time the optimization has run it showed that it was not required because my fragmentation was only 1%
Jen,
The diagnostic report will report disabled for PC Tuneup if any of your scans/tasks under PC Tuneup is in a disabled state.
You can see what is disabled if you launch N360 and move your mouse over the PC Tuneup area of the UI. Then select details under PC Tuneup. My guess is that one or more of the tasks is set to run manually.
The only thing I have disabled is 'backup'.
On another note, just recently when I go to Control Panel (Vista) and go to Security. It states that Norton 360 antivirus is not protected and off as is malware even though all is protected and set to automatic with no manual.
My firewall says 'on' and has 42 applications currently protecting me.
Hi Jan
Can you go to Settings> Automatic Tasks and make sure all of the boxes are ticked? Is the schedule set to 'Automatic'?
I think that one of the reasons the PC Tune-up is showing as disabled in the Diagnostic report may be because of the backup status, but I can't be sure on that one. Mine says disabled as well, my backups are set to manual but have never been run. I've never really noticed this status before.
John
Hi-
Yes, all the boxes are ticked and set to Automatic.
I have now enabled Backup and have set that to Automatic as well, however Diagnostic still says Disabled on PC Tuneup however changed to Protected for Backup.
My PC Tuneup does not run automatically even though everything is set to Automatic. I can run in manually, it is just frustrating because it doesn't do what it is supposed to do.
It is my understanding that the msg in the diagnostic report is a known error - one which I myself reported some time ago. It is considered a cosmetic error only.
How often are Optimizer and Registry cleaner supposed to run.? After 10 days of it not running automatically I finally just ran them myself.
Well, not a simple answer to give. It depends on your settings, how your PC/laptop is used and the mercury level in the air.
I will try to amplify.
You first must look at task scheduler and the settings.
If you have set automatic it will still require 20 minutes of idle time. If your pc is never idle, automatic scheduling may not cut in.
On the other hand, I have myself noticed that sometimes automatic scheduling does not work. In that case you have to look at some oher threads in this forum.
I have the same exact problem as you (my original forum posting is “Checked but showing disabled”), where PC Tuneup is set on Automatic for all options but Registry Cleanup in my case, but won’t run scan automatically will own scan manually. I been have talking to Matt Boucher a Sr. Manager, Engineer at Symantec by the forum’s private message option, you might want to go to my posting & click on Matt’s name and send him a private message. I will send a message to Matt to look at your posting.
This is interesting. Today, my optimizer, internet explorer history (but not temp files), and registry cleanup ran!!
I didn't make any changes after my last post. Weird. Maybe now I'll stop obsessing...
Hi, you might want to edit that last msg of yours to tidy up the English "but won't run scan automatically will own scan manually."
I know Matt well so there is no need I feel for me to touch base with Matt. Matt is aware I'm sure of my "wanted" campaign and that each of the topics listed may ultimately prove to be a bug. It is nevertheless most helpful that you are communicating with him, and I'm sure your experience will be of interest.
