I sent another email to support and they sent the following link http://solutions.symantec.com/sdccommon/asp/symcu_contentredirect.asp?docid=20071130150308EN&lg=en&seg=hho&ct=us&src=w
It references Enabling Symantec startup files for Norton 360 2.0 which has to do with some of the Symantec Services so I made the changes restarted my PC and PC Tuneup is showing protected. Also, I shutdown my PC for one hour logged back in ran PC Tuneup
DIagnostics and so far PC Tuneup is still Protected. Once I logout tonight I wont log back in until tomorrow evening and I will
see if PC Tuneup is still Protected.
I have worked with a Technician, written support and installed the product. I followed all of the steps and even let the technician take control of my pc check the settings and tasks that did not work. I received a reply from Support and followed the steps
in the email that did not work. I did an uninstall then a new install ran PC Diagnostics and PC Tuneup was Protected last
night. When I logged in this evening ran PC Diagnostics PC Tuneup is showing DIsabled. Any more suggestions on how
to fix the problem. Symantec need to look at the coding for the program pertaining to PC Tuneup is not keeping the
status of protected. I I have read other post and it seems to be happening with other operating systems as well.
I following all steps of link, but pc tuneup is still disable.
- browser settings (run automatically)
- network address (run automatically)
- windows temporary files (run automatically)
- internet explorer temporary files (run automatically)
- optimization disk (no run)
- registry cleaner (no run)
it's same situation :(
It stayed Protected until I deleted the desktop icon. The SymProtect Tamper Protection is checked in settings. I ran uninstall
did a fresh install ran diagnostics Protect was on again. So I unchecked Symprotect Tamper Protection deleted the desktop
icon ran diagnostics Disable was back on. I read up on SymProtect Tamper Protection prevents worms, Trojan horses, retroviral threats, and other security risks from tampering with Norton 360. However, occasionally you might need to turn off SymProtect Tamper Protection temporarily to perform certain tasks, such as installing new software but obviously it affects other changes made by the user. Personally to me since the 360 icon is in the system tray and you can access it there why do you need a desktop icon.
I hope Symantec will include the capability to check if you want to add the desktop icon or quick launch icon like some many
software users are doing.
I posted the same exact problem see "Checked but showing disable" originally posted 6-27-08 & last posting 7-7-08. Hopefully like me N360 v2 will let you still do PC Tuneup manually; but I also agree with you 100% that Symantec does need to look at the coding because back in Mid May 2008 PC Tuneup was showing protected & running automatically, something during an upgrade must have gone wrong. If don't see something by 7-11-08 morning from Symantec I plan to click on his name & e-mailing Tony Weiss at Symantec directly.
