I am running pcAnywhere Version 11.0.1 under Windows Pro SP2 on a Dell XPS Desktop. When I try to QuickConnect to my mother's PC (I use the manual entry: type the IP address and click the Connect Button... no other screen changes to the screen), I get a message saying that I cannot connect. I traveled in April to her home and tried to connect from her computer to mine and I got the same result. Prior to connecting, I get the IP Address using www.whatismyipaddress.com.
I tried turning off my Zone Alarm Firewall and virus scan. From her home, I tried turning off her firewall (do not remember if I turned off the virus scan too) when trying to connect to my computer. Same result.
I have never been able to connect since I bought the product eons ago. I am a rookie so there is an excellent chance that I may not be doing something right. Suggestions? I just found this forum so maybe one of you guys can tell me what I am doing wrong.
I tried a free offer from GoToMyPC and was successful connecting from my PC to hers.
Hello,
I am a pcAnywhere support technician. If you are having this type of difficulty, it is likely that a router might be blocking the ports needed. If you have a router, or your mother does, you can use this website as a resource:
This has program- and hardware-specific instructions for configuring port forwarding. Click Routers, then the router model, then choose pcAnywhere from the list of programs. It should give specific instructions for configuring this for you.
Thank you,
Randall Newnham
